Road Trip solitario in Irlanda. 5. Enchanted : perdersi per le spiagge e trovare un cane. Finalmente una giornata di sole! E allora si va in giro per il Connemara costiero. La giornata inizia con una passeggiata alla meravigliosa Dog's Bay e alla gemella Gurteen Beach. Poi una pausa veloce al villaggio di Carna e si riparte alla ricerca di Coral Beach. Peccato che Maps mi ha portato da tutta un'altra parte, su un'isoletta raggiungibile con una serie di ponti e il punto di arrivo indicava un vecchio pontile abbandonato. Mah, vai a sapere. Scendo comunque dall'auto per qualche foto e all'improvviso vedo questo border collie corrermi incontro da lontano e inizia a girarmi intorno. Dopo qualche coccola mi fa segno di seguirlo e arriviamo a questa piccola spiaggia, che non credo fosse Coral Beach ma improvvisamente mi è sembrata una destinazione molto più bella. Con buona pace di Dino che mi aspetta a casa, siamo stati sulla spiaggia per qualche minuto a giocare con un bastone e poi ci siamo salutati. ‘Dog’s Bay of Roundstone’ Roundstone, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland Lying back-to-back, Dog’s and Gurteen Bay are two of the most beautiful beaches found along Ireland’s western shore. On the left can be seen the horseshoe beach of Dog’s Bay which backs onto Gurteen Bay on the right. Both merely separated by a narrow strip of marram grass dune which leads out to a smaller 3rd beach in front named Trá na Feadóige. The sand on each of these beaches is not comprised of traditional limestone like other beaches. Instead, it is made entirely from fragments of crushed seashells 🐚. This is what makes the sand here pure white in colour, which seems to shimmer in the sunlight like millions of tiny pearls 💚

Taking the dogs to Dog's Bay Beach, Ireland ☘️🐶 On the coastline of Connemara, on the Erridbeg Peninsula, sits the magical Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay Beaches. I would easily put these two in my top five beaches in Ireland! The beaches lie back to back and are separated by a dog bone shaped sandspit landform. Both have pure white sands, that are formed from crushed seashells, and crystal clear, turquoise waters. 💧 On a hot day, you really could be in the Caribbean! The horseshoe-shaped, sheltered Dogs Bay stretches for around 1.6km, with Gurteen Bay being slightly bigger. The nearby grassland habitats, made up of machair vegetation, are said to be rare and are only found on the west coast of Ireland and Scotland. 🍃 You could take to the water on a kayak from the nearby Roundstone Outdoors equipment hire and lessons. You can also stay over at Gurteen Bay Caravan & Camping Park. Parking on the dogs bay side can be a nightmare, the car park is tight and doesn’t have many spaces.
