Imagine entrusting someone with your dog, and then you never get them back. Or they come back, but they are now classed as a dangerous dog. Imagine taking your dog for a walk, and he gets attacked by a friendly dog. Or a loose dog that has escaped from their inadequately fenced yard. Imagine walking your dog on lead and taking precautions, but someone let's their dog come up to your on lead dog, bursting their closely protected bubble and your dog attacks. Imagine your dog losing their life due to something completely preventable. These things are happening every single day. Some people don't need to imagine these incidents because they have happened to them and their dog. We need to be more responsible. We need to understand dogs better. We need to stop using fear and force to educate our dogs. We need to stop thinking muzzles are only for bad dogs. We need to stop forcing our dogs to interact with others. We need to know what skills people have that are working with dogs. We need to start thinking critically about who we entrust with our dogs There are very few people who I would trust with the care of my dogs. I don't trust anyone to walk my dogs, especially all together. No one is entitled to having a dog. We need to start working on deserving a dog.

It is ok he is friendly! 👋🏻 This is absolutely one of my most hated phrases! It is generally shouted at you with a small wave as an over-exuberant, out of control dog bounds up to your under control dogs. It drives me insane. It is highly unlikely that a dog will never react negatively to another dog no matter how friendly he is. A strange dog running up to another unsuspecting dog will not always end well. How are you going to protect your dog if you are still 100 metres away when a fight breaks out? For the love of dog, control your dog! Please be aware that just having a dog on a lead doesn't automatically mean it is under control. In addition to this, just having your dog on a lead doesn't mean your dog can't be classed as a dangerous dog. As a dog owner, you must be in control of your dog at all times. This means that your dog shouldn't "injure, endanger or cause distress to any person, livestock, poultry or domestic animal, or protected wildlife," cause damage to property or be a nuisance. For the love of dog, control your dog! Protect your dog. Keep your dog safe! Let's keep everyone's dogs safe. Have your dog on lead in on leash areas. Basically, this is everywhere that isn't a designated off leash area. Remember that even in off lead areas, you need to have control of your dog if others are around. Train your dog to respond to vocal cues, hand signals, or whistles. Muzzle your dog if needed.
