NEWPORT BEACH, CA - APRIL 26, 2024: Sailboats gather near the Balboa Pier as they prepare to start the 76th Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race. The race, a 125-nautical-mile run to Ensenada, Baja California, was first run in 1948 and is now one of the West Coast’s premier regattas. Humphrey Bogart was among the original sailors of the first official race in 1948. He sailed into the local history books along with Spencer Tracy and Errol Flynn (each in their boats). As one of the largest sailboat races in the nation, ‘The Ensenada Race’ is a top event for a broad spectrum of yachts - classes from day sailors to world-class maxi racers. Other notable racers include Walter Chronkite, movie producer Milton Bren, actor Buddy Ebsen, comedian Vicki Lawrence, and Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Paul Conrad. The Newport to Ensenada race is organized and run by the Newport Ocean Sailing Association. Mount Etna stands as one of the most active volcanoes in Europe and has been in an almost constant state of activity for the past decade. Its last eruption, kicking out an immense amount of lava and ash, took place in November 2023, followed by continuous emission of steam and sulfurous gases up until now. Reaching approximately 3350 meters, Etna ranks among the tallest active volcanoes in Europe, though this varies with summit eruptions. During our recent trip to Sicily, I was very excited to witness Mount Etna. The plan was to ascend via cable car to the La Montagnola crater, situated around 2500 meters above sea level, then we make our way as high as possible. With strong wind gusts and intermittent rain, the weather was not perfect, but we managed to reach an altitude of about 2900 meters, from where the main summit craters became nicely visible. Due to the strong wind, I was a bit hesitant to fly my drone, but after receiving approval from our tour guide, I decided to give it a go. Taking advantage of the drone’s telephoto camera, the main crater of Mount Etna became clearly visible, unveiling its collapsed inner sections, vibrant yellow sulfur deposits, and thick billows of smoke rising from within. Zamek królewski Bobolice 🏰 Zdjęcia @lu9a5 👏 🎯 #zamkiwpolsce 🏰 Wybudowany na polecenie króla Kazimierza Wielkiego w pierwszej połowie XIV. Pierwszym poważnym uszkodzeniom zamek uległ podczas wojny domowej w 1587 roku. Kolejnych zniszczeń dokonał szwedzki najeźdźca. Po tych wydarzeniach opustoszała warownia zaczęła popadać w ruinę. W XIX w. w podziemiach zamku znaleziono skarb, przez co kolejni jego poszukiwacze dopełnili reszty zniszczenia. Po drugiej wojnie światowej mury zamku zostały częściowo rozebrane i posłużyły do budowy drogi łączącej Bobolice z Mirowem. Zamek w Bobolicach ostatecznie trafił w prywatne ręce 🏰 Zamek można zwiedzać. Nestled away in the village of Inniskeen county Monaghan sits the remnants of a round tower. Originally built on the site of a local monastery to protect against raids from Vikings. A monastery was founded here in the 6th century by Saint Daigh MacCarell which was burned in 789, plundered by the Vikings in 948, and burned a second time in 1166. The bottom third of the round tower is all that remains remains. Just a short walk away also lies the remains of a Norman Motte. We just happened to be in the area that day and I took some shots of what I seen. Inniskeen is small town packed with history and definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area or passing through.

The long and busy road 🛣️ I’m sure the view from the air was much better than the view for these commuters. The weather forecast had all the hallmarks of of good sunset but the clouds decided to move on before it really popped. SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS, CA - APRIL 11, 2024: Mount San Antonio rises above the clouds. Mount San Antonio, commonly referred to as Mount Baldy, is a 10,064 foot summit in the San Gabriel Mountains on the border of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties of California. Lying within the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and Angeles National Forest, it is the high point of the range, the County of Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Mount San Antonio’s sometimes snow-capped peaks are visible on clear days and dominate the view of the Los Angeles Basin skyline. The mountain is almost always referred to as “Mount Baldy” by locals, to the point where many may not recognize the name “Mount San Antonio.” When American settlers arrived and surveyed the land, “Baldy” – a reference to the bare fell-field of Baldy Bowl that dominates the south face visible from Los Angeles – became the predominant name, and it has stuck. LAS VEGAS, NV - APRIL 6, 2024: The Strip welcomes visitors in Mojave Desert. The Las Vegas Strip is a 4.2-mile stretch of road designated as a National Scenic Byway by the United States Department of Transportation. Many of the largest hotel, casino and resort properties in the world are in this stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard. The Strip south of the Las Vegas city limits in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester, but is often referred to as "Las Vegas". The City of Las Vegas was mainly contained to the downtown area that was established in 1905. In 1941, the El Rancho Vegas Hotel and Casino became the first resort on what is known today as the Strip. Hoteliers seeking to avoid high municipal taxes started building outside the city and eventually took the spotlight from Fremont Street. The City of Las Vegas tried to annex the Strip. To avoid annexation, the casinos supported legislation to create unincorporated townships. First it was Paradise, then Winchester, then Spring Valley. Under the new legislation, Paradise could have become Las Vegas with a vote of the people, but it's remained an unincorporated township. I think I might have just found heaven on earth ❤️ I booked this stay in April of last year, and every post, every story they put up built the excitement levels to the point I was worried my expectations might be too high. Needless to say they weren’t 🥹 Photos and videos just don’t do this place justice, but that wasn’t going to stop me trying 🙂 I’m not sure who was more surprised - hubby or the sheep - when hubby went out to see what the noise was from coming from the roof on the first morning. The sheep scarpered 🤣 The next day while we were exploring the nearby ridge, they came back, so I sent the drone over to say hi 🙂

On the road from EO Kalamakas to Grevena, you encounter the impressive Venetikos River of Macedonia. It belongs to the largest tributaries of the Aliakmon River and originates from the mountainous massifs of Smolikas, Vasilitsa, Orliakas, and Valia Calda. Its waters have a vivid green color for most of the year, creating stunning landscapes. A little downstream from Grevena, it forms the spectacular Gates of Venetikos, cutting through vertical rocky cliffs. Then, it flows eastward and contributes to the Aliakmon River near the village of Agapi. During periods of heavy rainfall, its waters fill with mud from nearby streams. Lanzarote volcanoes 🌋 1. Caldera Blanca, which means ‘White crater’, are two volcanoes that formed during the violent eruptions between 1730 and 1736. The largest crater has a diameter of 1200 meters. What a monster that must have been! 2. Volcán Montaña Colorada has a striking reddish color that glows beautifully as soon as the sun shines on the crater rim. 3. Caldera del Corazoncillo, in my opinion one of the most beautiful volcanoes in Lanzarote, also called ‘Island of Volcanoes’. 1. CORBETT, OR - APRIL 3, 2024: The Vista House sits on a rocky promontory 733 feet above the Columbia River on the south side of the Columbia River Gorge. The octagonal stone building opened in 1918 as a comfort station along highway 30 between Hood River and Portland. With its high-grade marble interior and brass fixtures, some Oregonians at the time derided it as the “$100,000 Outhouse” during its construction. The initial funds for the project, allocated by the public, had totaled $3,812.35 According to an itemized list published by the Oregon Historical Society, the building itself eventually cost approximately $70,000, with an additional $9,000 for the accompanying rock wall; $8,000 for paving and gradation; $6,000 to the architect; and $3,000 for other miscellaneous costs. The building is essentially a domed rotunda 44 feet in diameter with an octagonal plan on a 64-foot diameter base which houses toilets and a gift shop. The rotunda is 55 feet high. Stairs lead from the rotunda to an elevated viewing platform at the base of the dome. The exterior is gray sandstone, with a green tile roof. The interior is extensively finished in marble, even in the toilets. The dome interior has bronze lining. The clerestory windows feature opalescent glass in a simple tracery pattern, with similar colored glass at the tops of the windows at the main level.
