Our first Trout Fest event was a huge success. It exceeded our expectations with all the vendors who participated and the 250+ that attended and over 100 kids who got to participate in releasing almost 400 pounds of rainbow trout into the Kern River. Back in 2019 I was still learning about how to formulate a good composition and what my own style would be. I think you’ll see that this is one ‘type’ of photo that I revisit often to varying degrees of success… and in my case it’s almost always spontaneous. The coolest jagged ridge that I’ve been surrounded by for a while. Not sure entirely how the precipitation will pan out for skiing this weekend, but hopefully some fresh snow at high elevations and that warming spring corn at lower elevations. I finally got a chance to visit Washington Pass area again for skiing this year! Highlights: booting up the first couple hundred feet was smooth due to large amounts of melted out ground to travel on. Flat valley floor to keep warming up before short sections of steep terrain. It reminded me a lot of the approach to Ruby Mountain. Lowlights: booting up the ice cause we chose the steeper direct route. We didn’t see an expanse of peaks at the top.
