“Between America and A Hard Place”(2024) Acrylic paint and spray paint on repurposed wood. Amongst the Ivy League schools, Columbia stands distinctly apart from the others when it comes to its history with student protests in the 20th and 21st centuries. Dating back to the 1968 student demonstrations where local Harlemites banded with them to fight against the school’s support of the Vietnam War and their desire to build the Dodge Fitness Center in Morningside Park. CU even attempted to justify this colonization of public land by arguing that local community members would be able to enter the facility from a rear-facing entrance. Those protests led to arrests, expulsions, but also? Prevented Morningside Park from being destroyed as much-needed green space. Since then, student protests at Columbia have led to divestment from South Africa’s Apartheid regime in the 1980s, forced dialogue onto the administration regarding the unionizing of graduate students, and triggered divestment from oil and gas companies in 2021. One of the original protesters of 1968, Juan Gonzalez, was expelled from CU and went on to form a part of the senior leadership team within the New York Young Lords. Y’all seem to think that the information we share here is disjointed. Without direction, but no. There is a deliberate reason we began with Puerto Rican history in 20th century NYC. There’s a reason we refuse to be silenced. There is a reason we chose to continue to share true knowledge and wisdom. Because this calling is bigger than us, than you, or your feelings. Because, it’s time we acknowledge the truth. And the facts are that we are collectively more powerful than they want us to believe. Otherwise? College students protesting wouldn’t have old, white capitalists so stressed out. Pay attention, because this is our generation’s civil rights movement. And your silence is louder than you think. Your lack of a backbone and immoral complicity with genocide will not be forgotten. We stand with all students who feel compelled to walk out in protest.

His connection with Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) began early, as a student at P.S.108, where he first engaged with our youth and family services programs. At just 14, Giordi embarked on his professional journey with CHLDC through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), marking the start of a longstanding affiliation. Transitioning seamlessly into part-time roles within CHLDC's after-school programming, Giordi's commitment and passion shone through as he progressed from program aide to group leader and Americorp member. Alongside his academic pursuits, his interest in construction blossomed during high school, culminating in notable achievements such as completing a shed-building competition in record time. Navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Giordi seized opportunities for growth, enrolling in the inaugural round of the Building East New York (BENY) program. Equipped with certifications in OSHA 30 and 10 Hour SST, he embarked on a journey with Menotti Enterprise, ascending to the role of COVID safety officer and acquiring fire guard licensing (F01/F02) credentials. If the evil within you chose to think this too was as evil as you then you were wrong. The negative connotation the word cult has is the same negative connotation my brown skin carries in rooms of whiter complexions. Therefor I am judged before I am seen the same as life itself. You all are quick to judge before seeing the bigger picture. But judgement from flesh means nothing in the end…because it’s all a cult. You’re all playing a big game of pretend and being what you THINK you have to be instead of stepping into who YOU ARE…

“Strange Fire” For this piece, we imagined a woman being told that she would only be able to be a housewife and all of her duties from that point on was to care for a man and her children. She would not be able to live out her dreams, and be something that most would see as “unimaginable”. Well, this is the turning point which she’s tired of waiting on her man, hand and foot living to only service him because it turns out she cannot have children. so she has decided to burn the house that was once her shackles and now she is taking her bags and leaving because nothing is holding her back… Your imagination is a wonderful tool… never lose it no matter how crazy it is…peace CULTure.2🧿
A custom with a personal meaning. “What made the red man red?” is a reimagined painting of the chief of a native tribe in an old controversially classic story of Peter Pan… we took the liberty of making his skin tone brown instead of red to pay proper respect to natives, but at the same time we are pointing out disrespect in the form of child entertainment, which potentially misinforms children of Native Americans, their lifestyles and their history. The choice of the teddy bear is because if you watch the segment of “what makes the red man red” the child is heavily influenced by what he is seeing and hearing so much so that he gives the teddy bear away to partake in newly learned actions. Therefore it is a representation that if given the opportunity a child will leave their childhood behind to follow the lies of men. There’s always more to be said about these paintings, but I’ll leave you with that. CULTure.2🧿
