Here are four fun facts about volunteers at our festival! This is merely a glimpse of the goodness that goes into making our festival the special event that it is. There are so many of you that contribute in such unique ways and we wouldn't be the festival we are without you. We are fortunate to have so many volunteers who come back year after year. Some have been returning for 2, 5, 10, 20, 30+ years. We also welcome hundreds of new volunteers each year! Whether they were encouraged by a friend who volunteers, have a desire to give back to the community or perhaps volunteering for EFMF is simply a way to indulge their love of music. Regardless of how you arrive, you are welcome! Our enthusiastic youth crews make up the next generation of volunteers (some as young as 12 years old) who do their part to make the hill a great place to be. Your passion and enthusiasm play a huge part in making the EFMF such a great event in our city. Hey Everyone! Site Production could use some help from other crews to get them ahead of schedule. If you have a few hours to spare in this last stretch leading up to the festival, please head to the site office and let them know you are ready to pitch in! No special skills are needed, you will always be working in a group and there is lots to be done. Remember to show up with closed-toe shoes. The shifts are 9am - 1pm, 1pm - 5pm and 5pm-9pm. You will be rewarded with a delicious Festival Kitchen meal, camaraderie and maybe even a new friend! As a bonus, your name will be added to a draw to win a pair of Jeremy Dutcher tickets! Yesterday was exactly two months since I had my second operation done. Exactly two months as I am without a thyroid gland and do not receive the necessary therapy. My treatment was planned in Ukraine, but the war made its adjustments. After Marianna received the 7th dose of Spinraza, we could not return to Ukraine. I was forced to start a survey in Poland. Finally, today is my hospitalization and final examinations. I pray to God that I will soon receive therapy and return to a full life. Cancer takes away all my strength. I feel constant dizziness, headaches and much more. Sometimes it's hard for me to even breathe and talk. I have to be on an iodine-free diet and do not take hormonal pills. It affected my condition very much. I feel like a vegetable. Sometimes it seems to me that if I am pushed lightly, I will fall because I don't have the strength to stand. This makes me very sad, because I have a wonderful daughter who fights with the SMA every day. She needs my support. Despite my condition, I struggle! After all, I have no other choice. I can also help those who are fleeing the war. I would like to help more. Sometimes I am ashamed that I am not doing enough. But I am physically lacking of strength. My family and friends are now in dangerous regions. Some people have left their homes, some are still in basements under fire. It's incredibly scary! I pray to God that everyone is alive! I believe in the victory of Ukraine and I believe that I will overcome cancer! Thank you for joining us this year as we celebrated the festival weekend together. It was an absolute joy to see and hear how you were celebrating with festival friends and family. Pamela Bunge and her husband Richard Hoblak have been volunteering with the EFMF for twenty years. With enough volunteer t-shirts and time (thanks, COVID) she made a quilt. “My quilt is a tangible memory one day to be passed on to my daughter to remember the wonderful times had at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival.” Pamela and Richard started volunteering in the Record Tent (now Music and Merch) in 1998. Pamela has seen the medium change from cassettes to records to CD’s and back again. Her daughter Olivia began a folkie “in utero” and has been attending ever since; she now volunteers on the Instrument Lock Up crew. Pamela has many fond memories volunteering in the merch tent. “My memories of working in the CD tent, I recall with pleasure. It was gratifying to work closely with the performers and their product, and to get to know fellow crew members over the years. The music, the fantastic food, the comradeship and sense of purpose during the festival is a memory I will always cherish.” Thank you for sharing your quilt Pamela!
