Karierę aktorską rozpoczął w wieku siedmiu lat, a po ukończeniu szkoły średniej wyjechał do Kalifornii, by podjąć studia filmowe. Po powrocie do Zjednoczonych Emiratów Arabskich, Nawaf Al Janahi produkował i reżyserował niezależne filmy krótkometrażowe, doceniane na festiwalach na całym świecie. Jego ostatnia etiuda, Mirrors of Silence, zyskała uznanie krytyków i widzów, reprezentując ZEA na 22 międzynarodowych festiwalach filmowych. Pierwszy pełnometrażowy film reżysera, The Circle, został określony przez krytyków jako “główny punkt zwrotny w kinie emirackim i Zatoki”. Jego druga produkcja, Sea Shadow, która zostanie pokazana podczas przeglądu, miała swoją światową premierę na Abu Dhabi Film Festival (2011), a następnie została wprowadzona do dystrybucji kinowej w krajach Zatoki Perskiej. The United Arab Emirates are associated mainly with oil, rapid increase of investments in recent years, skyscrapers of Dubai and Abu Dhabi or amazing man-made islands. It should be remembered, though, that this relatively small country of the Arabian Gulf – with 10 million citizens – is also an important center of Arab culture and young, emerging cinema. Emirati Film Review is a unique project which enables the Polish audience to learn more about the developing cinema art in the UAE. It is also an opportunity to meet and talk to people directly involved in the process of creating movies in UAE. We hope this year’s edition will be as interesting as last year and will satisfy the most demanding audiences.
