To make matters worse, she stole her umbrella! STORMY WEATHER follows two women embroiled in a seemingly meaningless fight as they uncover deeper conflict and emotions underneath the surface. John D’cruz wrote, directed, and produced STORMY WEATHER. The film came from his fascination with meaningless conflict and shifting sympathies, and unfortunately made him want to pursue screenwriting months before the end of his senior year. After graduation, he’ll be moving to LA to explore a career as a writer, producer, gaffer, assistant director, or really any entertainment field that’ll have him.

When they return from Thanksgiving break, they find their apartment mysteriously packed up. Their first suspect? Landlord Brad. Isabel Salas directed, shot, and produced FROGGIES. Their desire to create a mystery not centered around murder led them to this web series. They plan to move to LA in August to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. While they have many interests in the industry, they hope to pursue a path that leads them to creative work.

She mourns her young daughter, whom she chose to give up amid her poverty-stricken living conditions. Her monotonous days are haunted by her unshakeable contrition. But when she meets a kindred inmate, she begins to make sense of her guilt. As her burdens shift from solitary to shared, she finds herself uncovering a new way forward. Sophia Lin is an aspiring writer, director, and cinematographer. She loves watching movies with people in distress, and hoped to make one of her own with RED PRIOR. After graduation, she will be moving to Los Angeles and stress drinking smoothies.

Is the universe throwing them together repeatedly because they are right-person-wrong-time soulmates, or are they simply two maladjusted adults with an unhealthy codependence? NO SMOKE TO CLEAR is Anne’s fourth feature film. She generally writes comedy or romantic comedy and has also written eight television pilots of the same genre. She loves to take inspiration from her friends and family, and you are sure to find one of her roommates in everything she writes. Starting this summer, she is moving to LA to pursue screenwriting and is excited to get coffee and run errands for the best in the business.

After rescuing the victim from the jaws of death, Angelina must deal with the emotional fallout and newfound attention resulting from the tragedy. Along the way, she connects with an unlikely ally, Ben, a charming reality television producer. Inspired by films of the '70s like THE LAST PICTURE SHOW and MEAN STREETS, this feature-length screenplay is a character-driven drama that explores community identity. It further explores the relationship between media and personal loss through the lens of a shark attack, the epitome of sensationalized tragedy. Mia DeAngelo is graduating with degrees in Film and Media Studies and Chemistry. Her passion for science drove her to capture realistic shark behavior in her script. After graduation, Mia plans to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, hopefully creating media that joins her love of science-fiction and mystery.

Reading, PA – Immediate Release – Yesterday, the Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg was filled with film industry representatives from across the state to advocate for a $300 million film tax credit to preserve Pennsylvania’s long history in film. Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Film Industry Association (PAFIA), the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, and the Pittsburgh Film Office, the event kicked off a weeklong effort to emphasize the need for the increase. Cammie Harris, Executive Director of the Reading Film Office (RFO), delivered a passionate speech, shedding light on Reading and Berks County's role in Pennsylvania's film landscape. "When people think about Pennsylvania films, they often point to films made in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but the film industry is so much broader than that," stated Harris. She noted that Reading | Berks County, the fourth largest city in PA, is known for its vibrant art scene, which includes a talented community of filmmakers. Congratulations to three Film and Media Studies alumni on their recent accomplishments! Giovanna Molina (FMS ‘19) will receive funding for her short film project, QUAKER, from The Future of Film is Female (@futureoffilmisfemale). During the last Quaker Meeting of the year, NYC high school seniors share their unfiltered feelings with each other. Lukas MacKinney, (FMS ‘21 and Super TA), has been accepted to the prestigious MFA in Film and Video program at CalArts and will begin in the fall. The MFA is a three-year program that allows students to take foundational courses before deeply engaging with a thesis project in their final three semesters. Diana Peralta (FMS ‘11) has been chosen as a fellow in the 2024 Sundance Directors Lab for her project, NO LOVE LOST. When a troubled young woman brings her new husband home to meet the family, her devoted but insular sisters reveal the extremes they will go to protect one another.

Graduating summa cum laude with a bachelors in Film and Media, and a production minor at Georgia film academy!!! I am so proud of myself. My parents were both first generation college students and I knew my whole life that I wanted to earn a degree and follow in their footsteps at Georgia State University (where they met and got engaged as well) . Georgia state was the only college I applied to after hearing how my parents thrived there as well as my aunt Azita who is the person who inspired me to work in film as a child. I am so so happy that I went here. At GSU I made some of the most incredible memories of my life, had a world of opportunities in film at my fingertips, and even got to study in Japan. . This last semester I’ve been interning 60 hours a week at Marvel while also completing my last semester as a full time student! I am so grateful every day for these opportunities. . Thank you to everyone who has been on my journey so far!!!! If there is one thing I learned in college it is what the support and love around you will pull you through, and to LEARN, learn your whole life and never stop. Education is not something to take for granted because it is not accessible to everybody. Kyra Schofield stopped by the Calvin campus recently, but she wasn’t there to say hello to old friends. The 2022 graduate is now an enrollment and recruitment specialist for the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and she was at Calvin on a recruiting visit to meet prospective students. Schofield graduated with a double major in film and media and strategic communication. In her role at the university, she works in marketing and recruiting for post-baccalaureate programs within the school of medicine. “I write our marketing emails that will go out to 50,000 people for different programs,” she said. “I’m also doing webinars for students and email communication, so if a student has a question about a program or needs help with something, I am there for them.” She said she loves her job helping students achieve their goal of getting into medical school, especially students who didn’t think it was going to be possible for them. It’s fulfilling to watch them apply, get accepted, and start the program, she said. “It’s really cool seeing my work come full circle.” She credits her classes and professors in the Communication Department with preparing her well for her job, which involves a lot of persuasion and crafting effective messages. “I have truly used every single thing I learned in school in the professional workplace, whether it be in work colleague relationships, or with the actual work itself,” she said. She also said her four years on the Calvin women’s soccer team changed her life in many positive ways. The values instilled in her by the athletic program helped her become a mature, well-rounded professional in the workplace. “I don’t think I would be as successful, or be where I am right now, without participating in women’s soccer at Calvin,” she said. #calvinalumni #communicationcareers #filmandmedia #strategiccommunication @calvinathletics
