Presenting 'Frog in a Pot'. I created this functional sculpture in response to the prompt "allegory". There are times in our lives when we don't see the overall magnitude of a series of changes or events until it is too late. It can happen in a multitude of situations and different kinds of relationships. It's an important idea to be aware of no matter where you are in life. Maybe someone is hiding themselves and introducing you to small pieces of themselves because you wouldn't accept them otherwise. Maybe someone is testing your boundaries to see what they can get away with, and keep pushing and taking more. Someone could be building walls around you slowly. Restricting relationships with friends & family or comfortably forcing you into a life you don't want - one that might become extremely difficult to leave. Or hurting you. Maybe you're getting pushed harder and harder at work and don't realize you're being exploited for someone else's benefit because you're being promised something better and you think it'll be over soon. The fact that's it's incremental can make it so difficult to see and change. People who behave this way often depend on your return to complacency between cycles. The frog's broken arm speaks to how we overlook or forgive, choose to see the best, we're hesitant to change if we don't need to, or trust others who say we are thinking too much. Its been a rough quarter and we're all stressed. They're working on handling the anger. They didn't mean to hit you so hard. They didn't realize how you felt. Those things can be true - but that doesn't mean it's normal and that you need to accept it moving forward. You get to set and maintain healthy boundaries. If you see a pattern, don't ignore it. How people respond will be telling. This piece is a reminder to regularly look around and sanity check what's going on around you and where it could go next. We all know we have the power to jump out of a pot. It's been weird for me. It's like I've been hit with a wave of nostalgia and it's caused me to go down a rabbit hole to think about my life as a whole. Everything from choices made and not made to missed opportunities and opportunities succeeded. Also, to think about everyone who has entered and exited my life for the better and maybe for the worse and the lasting impression they've left on me. How many friends have you held onto? How many have you let just run their course in your life? Does everything happen for a reason? Or do our value system just change and we move on? There are some people I miss as friends that just simply changed as well as their values. Other friends I'm grateful for having in my life to this day that I held onto. As for others? I let go because they were negatively affecting my life as well as my view of myself which I'm sure they could say the same about me. Life is one strange and unwinding road. Complex yet simplistic at the same time ⏲️ I guess we cherish the moments we do have but also realize that nothing is forever. Nothing is really permanent. Time is vast yet fleeting. By translating a simple theory into tangible reality through the intricacies of computer programming, Hoover successfully mitigated the risks of call overload.
