@larrymadrigal x @galeriedroste Ces deux peintures m’ont interpellé. Bien qu’elles ne soient pas l’une à côté de l’autre, on distingue très bien leur continuité de par la présence de la bulle de savon et de l’aire de jeu. Quelque chose m’a touché en voyant ces deux peintures. Le petit enfant en crise semble être arraché du terrain de jeu, du plaisir ludique, de ce qui fait la joie d’un enfant. Enfance volée ? La deuxième peinture semble représenter cet enfant devenu adulte soufflant dans une bulle et se remémorant ce douloureux souvenir. Le terrain de jeu qui devrait être une source de joie et de plaisir, est source de tristesse, d’un enfant-intérieur blessé. Peut-être que j’aime ces peintures parce que j’aime les bulles de savon. Les bulles sont souvent associées aux enfants mais ne peut-on pas continuer à en faire même une fois adulte ? She creates a universe of beauty and joie de vivre. Cakes flow from leaves; bonbons hide in flowers and the anemone melts like raclette cheese. Her paintings always contain traces of people, but never depict them. This makes it possible to fully immerse oneself in the fantastic scenery, freed from social conventions and unbound by the constraints of reality. Mona Broschár moves in a field of tension of opposites, incorporating traditional (art) historical elements as well as current internet trends. The resulting flowing transitions and painterly arcs allow the works to be far more than „objects of desire“. With his densely layered paintings, Schoultz represents an all-encompassing, historical position in which he explores recurring patterns of behavior in history in relation to war, natural disasters and globalization. Inspired by underground comics, German cartography, ancient illustrations from Schedel's World Chronicle of 1493 or Persian miniatures, the American artist's works are visually and thematically highly allegorical. They manifestly lack references to individual historical events, but explore a collective restlessness fed by various global affairs. His wide range of historical references illustrates not only Schoultz's interests and influences, but also his idea of illustrating the cyclical nature of secular history through the use and juxtaposition of archaic and modern symbols, as well as iconography.
