During the Antwerp Art Weekend @archipel_site , an artist-managed workplace in an urban development area in Antwerp North, opens their permanent gallery space at this new location. Additionally, we present K.A.D.E. (Kunst Aan Den Engie), a group exhibition at the former ENGIE site at the Lobroekdok in Antwerp North. The theme of the exhibition arose from the physical condition of the place, which is located along the old port, a brick bank strip on the dock. The dock was an anchorage, loading or unloading place, from which one departs and to which one returns. A zone for trade and a crossroads where all kinds of goods and people from different regions cross and meet each other. The waterfront is what brings us together. May 16-19 2024. Repost from @fronteer_art • Fronteer Gallery regulars will no doubt notice a few different things about our current exhibitions. Most strikingly, we have moved the moveable wall in our main space. This allows us to house our ‘Peak District’ and ‘Ancient Landscapes’ exhibitions effectively. We are also utilising our barn doors to hang work; we think the earthy texture of the wood lends itself really well to an exhibition about the Peak District. We have also converted our smaller space into a studio space. This is where Fronteer’s own @mborkowsky will be housed during @openupsheffield, where he will be making an array of scented candles in response to the news. Lastly, and probably most importantly, we have changed our opening hours for the next few weeks to coincide with OpenUp Sheffield. Until 12th May we are open 10-3 Thursday - Friday, 2-5 Saturday and 10-3 Sunday. We are also open 10-3 this coming Bank Holiday Monday. Hope to see you soon! Last Wednesday evening, I had the pleasure to speak at the @worldofwomen panel and exhibit at @shoreditchartsclub_ , as part of “Rewriting the AI Rulebook for Artists” #DigitalArtWeek here in London. Our exhibition #TheIdealError will be extended to next Monday (29th April) and Tuesday (30th April) all day. “Errors often lead to unexpected beauty produced by AI, challenging traditional notions of perfection and aesthetics.” Our pieces are powered by @exactlyai, which enables us to create our personalised models, trained with images from our own artworks. Wyeth, Maurice Sendak, and Kay Nielsen, and the artists Käthe Kollwitz, Judy Chicago, Martha Rosler, and Wangechi Mutu. Like them, Jan’s work usually revolves around themes of social justice and the human condition, combining elements of pure design with the representational. She enjoys using text and the work of famous artists as collage elements, and often incorporates irony and humor in her artwork and their titles. ARTIST FEATURE — @veronicaclassen re:location — A Multidisciplinary Art Exhibition Veronica is a multi disciplinary artist, teacher, art director and specialist in miniatures for animation. Across genres her work explores how form relates to the body through textiles, architecture and scale. Veronica taught theatre design at Northwestern University in Chicago and at Concordia University in Montreal. She is an MFA graduate of Northwestern University’s Costume and Set Design program and holds a BFA from Concordia University’s Design for the Theatre program. Over the past few years, I have transitioned from potter to sculptor, creating figures and busts, with a particular interest in faces, hair, the human head. I am inspired by ancient sculptures, mythology and people I see on the subway. The artists in the exhibition expand the medium by incorporating processes including assemblage, photomontage, painting, digital manipulation or by playing with image quality. Bodies are stretched, remixed and transformed. The works are created for different purposes whether documentary, medical, galleries, fetish or fashion magazines. These contexts cross-contaminate each other showing photography as a culturally relevant medium with a huge scope for experimentation and evolution. 𝙇𝙄𝙌𝙐𝙄𝙁𝙔 will also be open for @peckham24photo - the free weekend festival that champions new voices in contemporary photography, which will have a special late opening on Friday 17th May from 6pm - midnight. The 8th Edition of Peckham 24 will explore photography’s multi-layered relationship to history through the curatorial theme, BACK TO THE FUTURE. The artistic programme will bring together diverse perspectives that blend the past, the present and the future via the lens of history. Fronteer Gallery regulars will no doubt notice a few different things about our current exhibitions. Most strikingly, we have moved the moveable wall in our main space. This allows us to house our 'Peak District' and 'Ancient Landscapes' exhibitions effectively. We are also utilising our barn doors to hang work; we think the earthy texture of the wood lends itself really well to an exhibition about the Peak District. We have also converted our smaller space into a studio space. This is where Fronteer's own @mborkowsky will be housed during @openupsheffield, where he will be making an array of scented candles in response to the news. Lastly, and probably most importantly, we have changed our opening hours for the next few weeks to coincide with OpenUp Sheffield. Until 12th May we are open 10-3 Thursday - Friday, 2-5 Saturday and 10-3 Sunday. We are also open 10-3 this coming Bank Holiday Monday. Hope to see you soon! So save the date - because this exhibition will be extra special for two reasons: first of all, the exhibition „Berlin, Berlin“ serves as a tribute to Helmut Newton’s hometown, and second of all, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary! Opening: Thursday, 6 June 2024, 7 pm / no rsvp nor tickets needed In the fall of 2003, Helmut Newton established his foundation at the former Landwehrkasino in Berlin, behind the Zoologischer Garten train station. This location is monumental as it reflect the beginning of Newton’s journey —from fleeing Berlin from this very station in 1938 to returning 65 years later as the world-renowned photographer we know today.
