#musicmonday revisiting my #cdcollection for some of my favorite #artists #albums today’s selection is #masterp 6th album #ghettod #1997 on #nolimitrecords if you grew up with #90shiphop there was a moment when No Limit burst on the scene and was the dominant sound in #southernhiphop helping put New Orleans on the map (along with Cash Money). This is an example of a #classicalbum that may not have been a lyrical masterpiece but left such a mark that you can’t talk about the history of #rapmusic without it. It’s small and smooth and tough, heavy and rugged feeling (reminds me of the early built #minicooper 😂) 🤷 Feels much more well made than the VHS 📼 case. I don’t love the label design but it’s decent enough. The original #GhettoD cover! Today in #HipHopHistory: Ghetto D is the 6th studio album by #MasterP, released Sept. 2, 1997 on #NoLimitRecords. Originally slated to be titled as #GhettoDope, the name was shortened to the current title before the release due to the drug reference in the aforementioned title. The original album cover, which depicted an addict sitting on a curb and smoking from a glass pipe, was recalled from store shelves. It was promptly replaced by the collage style cover. The album became the biggest-selling of Master P's career, peaking at number 1 on the #Billboard200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts with first-week sales of 260,000 copies. It was mainly on the strength of the two singles released; " #IMissMyHomies" and " #MakeEmSayUhh!" became hit singles in the years 1997 and 1998.
