(23 of 50) When I was 13 I had mad skills drawing graffiti, even calligraphy learning to write in old english. Friends thought it was cool, but the counselor didn’t. Thought I was a cholo in development and my gang name was Kid Frost because it was written on my binder. She put me in this class but treated me like I was Charlie Bucket and I had won the golden ticket. “Only 20 children in the whole district have been selected!!” She’d say. 4 Saturdays 10 hours each. Within minutes of day 1 I realized I was there with all the young hoodlums and the wild girls who would soon inspire the show 16 and pregnant. It was very preachy and weird, I’ll spare you the details. But there was a silver lining. During breaks we would go into this room that had a big stereo and a lock on the door and this kid would play Break Em Off Somethin’ loudly and it would get wild in that room, then an adult would bang on the door sometimes before Bun B’s verse. It feels weird saying what went on because we were teens but I’ll just say ironically what was supposed to make me a better person essentially made me worse. Not to mention I now new Mr Ice Cream Man and being Bout it Bout It, whatever that meant.
