Hiyaaaa Instafolks! The last 2 remaining improv videos from 26-03-2024 are quite short and uncomplicated, and this evening's constitutes just another bit of Schlock Baroque slash pseudo-Classical flailing. As mentioned elsewhere, I was dead tired when I made these videos and unconvinced that I was playing anything other than crap, at the time. I don't know if you can tell, but I get bored or fall into despair towards the end of each one (also in Improv #9, if I recall correctly) where I almost stop but then round it off instead, just in case it MIGHT be usable content and I'm just a sour bastard, unable to objectively assess if what I'm playing is worth listening to. I'm still happy to be positively surprised. Just on a quick side note: I discovered the joy of fiddling with AI music generation on Saturday night after one of my DJ friends in Ibiza posted dozens of tracks that he'd pumped out in just a couple of days. Damn! It's as much fun as you can have without getting all hot and sweaty with your partner. I'm sold! I'm almost inspired to make an AI Bozo profile. Let's see... OTD in Music History: Celebrated virtuoso pianist-composer Sigismond Thalberg (1812 - 1871) dies in Naples. Thalberg was *allegedly* brought to Vienna as a young man to study piano, and he also later claimed that he was actually in attendance for the very first performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770 - 1827) “Ninth Symphony” in May 1824, but there is no hard proof confirming any of that. In fact, the documented beginnings of his musical education only begin in 1826, when he traveled to London to study with Felix Mendelssohn’s (1809 - 1847) childhood music teacher, Ignaz Moscheles (1784 - 1870). Thalberg gave his first public performance later that same year, and he quickly made a name for himself as a top performer – although he continued to pursue a broader musical education on the side, including taking lessons in counterpoint with celebrated pedagogue Simon Sechter (1788 - 1867). Today, Thalberg is best remembered for participating in a legendary “piano duel” against Franz Liszt (1811 - 1886), which took place in the glittering Parisian salon of Countess Cristina Belgiojoso (1808 - 1871) in March 1837. The two young virtuosos both pulled out all of the stops, dazzling the assembled audience with their keyboard pyrotechnics. So who won? French music critic Jules Janin (1804 - 1874) offered the following assessment in his published review: “Never was Liszt more controlled, more thoughtful, more energetic, more passionate; never has Thalberg played with greater verve and tenderness. Each of them prudently stayed within his own harmonic domain, but each also used every one of his resources. It was an admirable joust, and the most profound silence fell over that noble arena. Finally, Liszt and Thalberg were both proclaimed winners by this glittering and intelligent assembly… two victors, and no vanquished.” For her part, however, Countess Belgiojoso offered a much more enigmatic pronouncement: “Thalberg is the greatest pianist in the world – but there is only one Liszt." PICTURED: An autograph musical quotation from an unknown work (possibly a string quartet?) that Thalberg wrote out for a fan on a decorative album leaf in Brussels in April 1840.

Son père, Johann van Beethoven, un musicien médiocre et alcoolique, le pousse brutalement dans la musique, espérant répliquer le succès de Mozart 🎹. Ludwig quitte l'école dès l'âge de 11 ans. 🎼 À 17 ans, alors que Mozart vient de l’accepter en tant qu’élève, Ludwig est obligé de rentrer de Vienne: sa mère est en train de succomber à la tuberculose. Ludwig reprend son poste à l’orchestre de la cour pour nourrir son père et ses frères . L’occasion de côtoyer Mozart ne se représentera plus: lorsqu'il regagne Vienne en 1792, il vient de s’éteindre🌟. 🎹 Beethoven était une personnalité complexe. Il composait entièrement nu dans son appartement, sans doute pour mieux ressentir les vibrations des 4 pianos privés de pieds posés sur le parquet. Dès l'âge de 25 ans, son audition décline, probablement à cause d'une maladie infantile. À 46 ans, il devient complètement sourd et incapable de diriger un orchestre. 🎼 Il continue cependant à écrire jusqu'à sa mort , à l'âge de 56 ans. 20 000 personnes se pressent à ses obsèques en 1827. 🔎Anecdote insolite: Beethoven mettait autant de soin à préparer son café qu’à composer sa musique.
