The #trashpirates 🏴☠️ covered the whole #saltriver yesterday. From #waterusers to #goldfieldrec and from #goldfieldrec to #granitereefdam. We did the upper portion and there wasn't much trash. Until we hit the bend after the bridge. In one spot alone, there were 19 shoes (they didn't all fit in the picture)! By the time we cleaned the whole area, we had well over 40 shoes, with only 3 pairs of matches being found. We filled 1 giant bag from that area alone. Our final count was 1- 45 gallon bag, 2- 13 gallon bags, a grocery bag, and a holey inflatable mattress. We saw a parasitic wasp (red velvet ant or cow killer ant, actually a wingless wasp), horses, a polliwog, a soft shelled turtle, road runners, vultures, and great blue herons. The #trashpirates collected over 15 bags of garbage off the river yesterday. We started at #goldfieldrec, dropped off 10+ bags of trash at #phond and continued down to #granitereefdam. For a good majority of the river, we had it to our selves. Along the way we saw dozens of horses, a king snake, a dead baby scorpion on a kayak paddle 😳, a dead bloated snake in the eel grass, a family of Snowy Egrets, several Great Blue Herons, a Bald Eagle, a Cardinal, and river otters, which included a baby! fishing on the other side of Red Mountain didn't get one bite but the view was spectacular! and the water was nice and cool. we started out on the #Rez side but we saw a man floating on an innertube he was almost about to reach the #granitereefdam he missed stop 4 on the #saltrivertubing tour so we gave him a ride back to his car. hate to thibk what would have happened if we werent there! but all in all it was a good day. we did a little road tripping today found some nice spots to swim and fish along the #verderiver can't wait to revisit the area. #fishaz #fisherman #fisherwoman #swimming #beautiful #az #redmountain
