I was fortunate enough to be a recent guest on the Sam Oldham podcast. As a former Olympic and British gymnast, Sam and me had plenty to talk about. We go into detail about our love for the sport of gymnastics and how we have both used the lessons learned in the gym and applied them to all aspects of our lives. I was actually in attendance watching Sam and the rest of the team achieve their bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Games. It was a moment that solidified the generations of hard work and commitment done by Gymnasts and coaches across the whole country throughout the years. What a wonderful day! I walked, walked, and then walked some more in the glorious sunshine 🌞. At the end of all the walking was this beach fire at Keyhole, which had some of the most amazing flames that I had seen from a fire before. I know I have written this before, in a variety of ways, but it is days like this that make me wish that Haida Gwaii is my home once again. I love the way I feel more present and engaged with my environment. The beautiful people who I have the privilege of knowing add to my enjoyment at a heart and soul level. I know this has been a long visit, so I have less stress than I would if I was working. Life here has definitely not been easy. However, I keep feeling that the darkness I experienced before had so many positive outcomes, making everything absolutely worthwhile. Fresh food is always available in my fridge. Why? My parents gives me food whenever I visit. A small bunch of grapes, a guava, some wild caught sea prawns, some kai lan. My fridge is always filled, so much so that I have to decline their offer sometimes. Kor will say 'Don't take it from them' because it gives them reason to buy more next trip. Instead of filling one fridge, now three - theirs, Kor's and mine. I was back at my parent's last evening. Whiff of taro aroma as I entered. Taro rice, more commonly mistaken as yam rice, was ready to be served. Mama has prepared everything, just waiting for our return to have dinner together. Before I am done with second bowl of taro rice, papa pushed a container of Sweet Globe green grapes in front of me. Washed and chilled, these are jumbo ones, crunchy and sweet. Almost like competition but not quite, mama pulled out another container. Fresh juicy and sweet pomelo peeled and chilled, ready to eat. "All these blessings in life. People don't show.
