Can I bare a secret with you all? I was gripped with fear here. 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐃. I had been sick for over a year and half. No one could tell me why. No one could give me a diagnosis. I feared the nights. I feared the days. I feared my own thoughts. I feared my future. Yep, me. The girl who powered through every moment of my life come hell or high water. Yet, here I was, in a daily wrestling match with an #𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲. In the last year, I’ve improved a ton and in the last 60+ days I feel like a new woman. I’ll get to why/how at another time very soon. But stay with me for a second. We are told by everyone these days, “feel the fear and do it anyway.” I’ve said it countless times. We are told to smash fear in the face. We are told to write it down, crumble it up and burn it to oblivion. Some of us, (myself included) have even walked on fire 🔥 to prove our ability to conquer it. But what if I told you we missed a step? What if I told you, we inverted the order? The truth might wreck you... In Psalm 139:23 David said, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” Ok. Then what?? Once they are revealed, we either are gripped with them or burning them on paper? Neither sounds like a really effective plan of action. So, in the midst of my healing journey, I discovered the importance of exposing the dark spots and sitting with them. Warring with them, and then, handing them over to God. Sounds easy, right? No, it sucks and it can either be an instantaneous transformation or a long, drawn out process. That was me. But, warring with the fear, naming it and not waiting on someone else to fix it was where the power was. I didn’t do this alone but I did it in private. I had loved ones support me. People pray for me and over me. Specialists give me hope and understanding. But the war was won with Christ when I said to Him, “𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫”, cont in comments

I have often suffered from my own self-doubt. I have been overweight almost my entire life. I have always identified as an athlete. These things don’t often go hand in hand. In fact. Many of those closest to me have often celebrated my “bigness” and tokenized me as someone not to mess with, but internally I was not cheering for me. . For Lent this year, I have been thinking about how to become a better man. How can I use my strengths to tackle my demons? I don’t believe a Lent sacrifice means that we always have to give up something. Certainly, it means pushing ourselves to be better Christians, but that sacrifice could be adding something right? PERIOD. 3) No eating dinner out! 4) $100 fun money for the month (I already spent $37) 5) Being transparent about my struggle.
