I enjoy acting without talking. I experiment with pantomime more than I experiment with script. I always think that people can understand and interpret my work on stage the way they want to. If I put words in my mouth, It is like I am telling them: This is what I want to say. Geteilt - Wie kann Europas letztes geteiltes Land wieder eins werden? In Nicosia beschäftigte ich mich in den letzten Tagen mit dem Zypern-Problem, gemeinsam mit jungen Kollegen aus allen Bundestagsfraktionen. Wir wissen in Deutschland recht wenig über die Geschichte, aber auch die aktuellen Dimensionen und Beteiligte dieses Konfliktes in einem unserer kleineren EU-Mitgliedsländer. Seit 1974 ist ein Teil des Landes besetzt, eine UN- kontrollierte Pufferzone mit Stacheldrat, Patrouillen und aufgegebenen Häusern inmittrn der zyprischen Hauptstadt hält diesen Konflikt in einem gefrorenen Zustand. Leider gibt es derzeit wenig Fortschritte. Ich habe gelernt, dass eingefrorene Konflikte nicht besser zu lösen sind, je mehr Zeit vergeht. Ich habe gelernt, wie kleinste Handlungen Misstrauen säen. Ich habe gelernt, welche Initiativen es gibt, mit ganz kleinen Schritten gemeinsam in eine gemeinsame Richtung zu gehen. Ich habe gelernt, welche Beiträge die Zivilgesellschaft leistet, wenn Politik schweigt. Beispiele dafür sind das Home for Cooperation im Niemandsland, in dem sich beide Seiten zum Reden treffen können. Ein Rad- und Fußweg an einem Fluss, der in seinem Verlauf die Waffenstillstandslinie überwindet. Es gibt also auch Hoffnung und einen klaren Wunsch hier in Zypern, dass Deutschland sich hier mehr einbringt. Man will vo unseren Erfahrungen von Wiedervereinigung und Versöhnung lernen. "There's No Such Place As Far Away", is a book written in 1979 by Richard Bach, the author of the phenomenal "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". I have not read the book but I am aware of its existence since the 1990s when I recklessly registered it in a bookshop in Prague. In Czech, it sounded like "Nikdo Neni Daleko", which in direct translation means 'no one is far away". That day, for a reason that I no longer remember, I did not buy the book. However, its title on its own has assisted me during many difficult times, where pain following a necessary farewell was inevitable. Today I remembered the book (I mean its title) and once again I realized that 'nothing'; no distance, no borders, no rules can separate us from the ones that live in our hearts... That those we love are always with us, in many ordinary, un-ordinary, random, or un-random moments, visible or invisible encounters. In other words, actually, they are with us in little infinite life droplets, that help us create our unique rivers of meaning and happiness. Dear Esra, thank you for expanding our friendship with your people in Sheffield. And Cith and Emma, thank you for taking the time to correspond with me to make our meeting today possible. My writing spot for the morning is at @thehomecafecy which is a cafe IN the Green Line. I am literally writing IN the border. The cafe accepts both Turkish Lira and Euro and is filled with people drinking coffee from both sides of the border as well as United Nations troops. Across the street (which you can see in the background) is the abandoned Ledra Palace Hotel- now used by the UN troops and for bi-communal events. I think this may be my new office. We created a vibrant brand identity for ‘The Home for Cooperation’, a unique community centre located in the middle of the dividing lines in Nicosia, Cyprus. Acting as a bridge-builder between separated communities, it brings together memories and visions through its physical presence and its peace building programs. For its new identity, a visual expression of the purpose and vision of The Home for Cooperation was developed, through a series of colourful geometric shapes, each representing a different community. All elements are equal and each plays its unique role in achieving completeness and balance.
