Another Tanzanian abstract artist to notice is the young Lazaro Samuel. He grew up as a street kid before finding his way to Nafasi Art Space, where he started decorating clothes in his spare time. His use of space and patterns attracted the attention of other artists who pushed him to express himself on canvas. On these canvases, he shares with us his own story and harsh memories. Had you ever heard about Tingatinga before my post of yesterday? The style was born in the late 60's with the naive and decorative style of Edward Saïdi Tingatinga. Although he prematurely passed away only 4 years after his first paintings, the movement spread widely. Today you can find in Tanzania thousands of art pieces inspired by his work.
