I am thrilled to announce my participation in an upcoming exhibition at the prestigious Dobrinka Salzman Gallery in NYC. The showcase called “UNTITLED-Works by Ten Women” will run from May 2nd to June 30th in the gallery. The exhibition features ten women artists between the ages of 30 and 92 from different countries, including Korea, Japan, Italy, France, and the United States. They use textiles, ceramics, and metal to explore material and cultural histories. This exhibition celebrates the artists’ creativity and their passion for their work. Paul Gauguin Tahitian Women under the Palms Oil on canvas 1891 Private collection When Paul Gauguin arrived on Tahiti in 1891, it was not quite the tropical paradise he had envisioned, but nonetheless it inspired him to create many of his finest works. Painted soon after his arrival, this work includes many of the features that distinguish his works painted on the island, such as the exotic vegetation and the Tahitian women exuding a dreamlike serenity. A decided change in Gauguin’s technique is visible, away from feathery brushwork toward flat applications of intense color. The two horizontal lines were painted by Gauguin himself, who may have contemplated cutting the canvas in half.
