BEFORE | AFTER Swipe to see the before video at the end. My client gave me some Pinterest inspo pics but ultimately wanted her first home to be cosy, comfortable and beautiful. The existing furniture items used: 〰️a round walnut dining table that belonged to her grandmother 〰️her existing Coricraft white couch 〰️a wooden dining room table and chairs we repurposed as an outdoor table and the chairs painted charcoal and used in the dining room. She wasn’t a fan of the existing flooring, but time and budget didn’t allow for a flooring renovation, so I had this huge custom seagrass rug made from @homestead_decor which has made a world of difference 💫 We moved and swapped out the existing wall lights, beautiful black metal and glass sconces, which also completely transforms the space. Vintage furniture is always a game changer: it not only stretches your budget, it adds charm and character - giving your home a collected versus showroom floor look and feel. Presented under the theme “Foreigners Everywhere”, the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale features work by more than 50 modern and contemporary African artists in chief curator Adriano Pedrosa’s main exhibition – among them eight modernist South African artists also appearing in the catalogue for Strauss & Co’s forthcoming live auction in Johannesburg on Tuesday 28 May 2024. “Adriano Pedrosa’s exhibition is a momentous occasion for modern African artists and an inflection point for change,” said Frank Kilbourn, Chairperson, Strauss & Co. Yveline Tropéa, “Between Two Worlds” on view through May 11. Tropéa skillfully mixes hand-beading and embroidery, hiding motifs in plain sight and creating kaleidoscopic backgrounds. Her process begins with free drawing, autonomously transcribing dreams and fantasies onto paper. The artist digitally enlarges the image and maps out color choices and patterns for beading and embroidery. Selections of glass beads and threads draw from local beading techniques and source material from craftspeople in Ouagadougou. I'm realising that this life thing really is a journey. It's a marathon not a sprint. I remind myself more and more that things don't have to happen immediately. Calm down. Breathe. Appreciate the journey and everything you're learning from it. Appreciate the things God is teach you and how you're growing and evolving. I used to think there was somewhere I had to be by a certain point because I'd look around and feel like I was falling behind and I needed to catch up. But not so much anymore. Which has brought such relief and a great sense of calm. I thank God for showing me that my race is my race. It's no one else's. I need to run it yes, but also His time is His time. And when He says the time is right and when He makes it happen, that's when it'll happen.
