The first 2 nights of our 7 night ride are spent @Iganyanawild a beautiful small lodge on the #detvlei. On the 3rd day, we start our adventure in #HwangeNationalPark. After check-in formalities at the main camp, we ride to Nyamandlovu pan and have a picnic lunch/ drinks watching the wildlife come in for a drink. Don't forget your Binos! Horses also have a rest, drink, and lunch. In the hot dry like now, there is always something going on at the pan. A few days ago, we saw giraffe, zebra, crocodiles, hippos, elephants, Sable Antelope, and many species of birds. Been so many lions, here a lioness, around Iganyana Wild and many excellent sightings in Hwange National Park where we ride....always exciting to see these amazing cats from horseback or on foot. Last night, the whole camp was kept awake by lions 🦁 🦁🦁 calling their deep reverberating guttural Roar. Up and down the Vlei at one stage I was sure if I looked outside, I would see them thru the darkness. They sounded so close, and indeed, morning investigations showed they had walked just behind camp. We had just started our morning schooling and exercise program with the horses 🐎 when we heard them call again, very close to us. This is unusual, normally, when people start moving around, lions move off. Ride aborted. @vunduvarden James Varden Professional Guide was not in camp. When he is not in camp, we stick close to home on our exercise route and use the round yard. Even though our Head Groom has been riding in big game areas for 15 years and we have total faith in his ability, he is not a licensed professional guide.
