Nambya state is a lesser known kingdom of the The Zimbabwe Culture and was located in north‐western Zimbabwe, in the Hwange district. The best known the stone‐built sites are Shangano, Bumbuzi and Mtoa. Nambya oral histories identify the stone buildings as capital sites of the Nambya state, with each differentm stone building complex associated with successive rulers of the state, known as Whange in the Nambya language. According to the Nambya oral narratives, Shangano was the capital of the first Whange, Chilobamago. After his death, Chilobamago was succeeded by Nyanga who moved the state capital to Matowa. Nyanga was subsequently succeeded by Whange Shana who moved the palace to Bumbusi which later came Lusumbami. Of the 3 capitals, Shangano has under gone the most investigation. Excavations have shown the site is divided into distinct areas, within which 2 semi‐detached stone enclosures and an extensive midden are the most distinct features. The 2 enclosures—designated Southern and Northern Enclosures—encompass house platforms. 2 smaller middens, associated with a house platform, have been recorded around 400m to the east of the main site. Radiocarbon dates obtained from Shangano show that it was occupied between the 14th and 19th centuries AD, indicating that the Nambya state developed contemporaneously with other Zimbabwe Culture states. When compared with the other more popularised pre‐colonial state systems of southern Africa, the Nambya state appears to exhibit a similar degree of complexity. In the absence of thorough archaeological research in the region, oral history has privileged the Nambya as people ancestrally connected to the stone-built archaeological sites. However, there are other ethnic groups in the district, such as the Dombe and the Leya who contest the traditional claims and association of the Nambya with the ruin...

I found this herd of Sable Antelopes at Shumba waterhole in Hwange. You don't always get to see Roan too often, but we were very fortunate to see quite a number of them in Hwange. 🤎 ROAN - The roan antelope a large savanna-dwelling antelope found in Western, central, and southern Africa.Named for its roan colour (a reddish brown), it has lighter underbellies, white eyebrows and cheeks and black faces, lighter in females. Improving eye care A huge thanks to friends and donors in Australia who shipped, amongst tonnes of other healthcare supplies, an ophthalmic microscope that was delivered to Tsholotsho Hospital. This piece of equipment will be invaluable to the communities in the area and to improving local eye care. The microscope supports eye surgeons during every step of the cataract surgery process, enabling them to work with high levels of efficiency and precision. Most villages in remote areas located near protected parks are poverty-stricken. Built around 1950s, it caters for about 300 students who attend the school from early age of about 4yrs, up to unit seventh grade from local villages nearby. . Drilling for water and sustenance: filling the gaps in a harsh and unpredictable landscape. Our team has successfully installed new boreholes in three villages located south of the boundary of Hwange National Park. These villages, facing the repercussions of an exceptionally poor rainy season, anticipate severely limited harvests this year. Our water strategy aims to integrate these boreholes into fenced and irrigated communal vegetable gardens.
