🍕 We finally tried the famous @pizza_jawn! For those of you who don't know, Dave Portnoy @stoolpresidente reviewed this pizza a few years ago and gave it an 8.1. I'd have to say I'd give it about an 8.6/10 as well. We ordered the grandma style and had so much pizza I thought we might explode. It's a little fancy like Dave said, but very good. As a former New Yorker, I'm always a tough critic when it comes to pizza, but this was for sure a good slice.

@jimssouthstreet at 400 South Street announces their reopening on Wednesday, May 1 at 4:00 p.m. On July 29, 2022, a massive electrical fire destroyed the restaurant, shutting it down for almost two years while the building, originally constructed in the late 1800s was repaired. Jim’s South St. is an important destination and staple of Philadelphia’s food scene, attracting more than a million visitors annually since 1976. Jim’s President, Ken Silver says, “We’re almost there and can’t wait to welcome you back! You won’t believe the incredible transformation of our building (now two buildings) but we’re sure you’ll enjoy the same great sandwiches as always. We are grateful to the Philadelphia Fire Department (whose incredible work saved our building), the South Street community, the supportive Philadelphia media, Clarke and Cohen Property Loss Consultants, Polidori Construction, Worldwide Restoration, D’Narpo Electrical, John Devine Plumbing, Joseph Papaleo Tile, MW Mechanical, RCG Telecom, Ambit Architecture, Pennoni Engineering, BHG Consulting, and our loyal customers.” The new Jim’s South St. was rebuilt bigger and better. President Ken Silver acquired and expanded into the famed Eyes Gallery building next door at 402 South Street. The second building added 1900 square feet and seating for an additional 60+ patrons. The new iteration of Jim’s South St. will include an open kitchen with a Jade custom manufactured 12-foot griddle. As in the past, the restaurant will not have fryers. The secret is officially out. What was known throughout the Philly foodie community has garnered the attention of national publications including Food & Wine naming it, “one of the best markets in America.” Of course we’re talking about the @seamarket_fdrpark . For over 30 years, each spring over 70 small restaurants and mom & pop shops set up at FDR Park for the market that extends all the way through October. This year the Southeast Asian Market’s opening weekend will be May 4th weekend. The hours of operation will be 10AM-6PM, Saturday and Sundays (except for Broad Street Run and Eagles Home Game days). However, the market will be open May 27th for Memorial Day and September 2nd for Labor Day. “It should be noted that many of our vendors are refugees from Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and at the time of our resettlement in Philly during the 1980’s, the taste for our cuisine wasn’t readily accepted by the American palate, and so selling food as street vendors was how they were able to share our dishes. Because we are still years away from getting that permanent home for the Southeast Asian Market built, we are still operating as a pop-up market in cooperation with FDR Park to ensure that others get to enjoy the space as well, so we continue the two Spring and Summer locations – please check the website and social channels for location announcements, states the market’s Community Cultivator Catzie Vilayphonh “We are also launching our own tours of the Market, so visitors can try out foods, ask questions directly with vendors but also learn the history of how our Southeast Asian refugee community helped to establish what we have today,” Catzie adds. What an absolute blast of a weekend with 52 fish landed over the span of two days with my good friend @northamericancarpaholic . What was supposed to be a weekend of jumping around to several prebaited spots turned into a complete haul fest. To start out we dotted the area with @carp_bait_usa radical whites and fish meal boilies. By the next day we were landing fish at times every 15-20 minutes ranging from low teens all the way to near 40lbs. @phloysterhouse is bringing back its annual oyster festival and shucking competition, ShuckFest, for another installment on Sunday, June 2nd from noon to 3:30 p.m. at @libertypointphilly (211 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.) , located at the Independence Seaport Museum on Penn’s Landing, overlooking the Delaware River. ShuckFest is Philadelphia’s largest oyster festival which features the area’s best regional oysters and farms while celebrating the local oyster industry. Entry into ShuckFest includes a meet-and-greet and tastings from 12 local New Jersey-based oyster growers, oyster shucking tutorials from experts, a craft table for children to create personalized jewelry from oyster shells, live music throughout the event from Gypsy Wisdom, and the event’s culminating oyster shucking competition. Guests can also purchase additional food and drinks from Liberty Point. Tickets for ShuckFest cost $80 apiece, and go live on April 24that noon on Oyster House’s website. Attendees must purchase tickets in advance. Children under 15 who accompany adults can enter for free. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit two local environmental non-profits: Partnership for the Delaware Estuary Inc. and The Jetty Rock Foundation. The event takes place rain or shine. The oyster shucking competition will feature a dozen local seafood industry professionals competing for a grand cash prize. Competitors will be graded on speed and accuracy by the judging panel, which includes Binh Nguyen of Visit Philly, Margaret Eby of The Philadelphia Inquirer, and Chef Eli Kulp of the Delicious City Philly Podcast. Penalties will be given for presentation fouls such as broken shells, cut oysters, or not fully detaching the oysters from their shells.
