My parents abandoned me for a few hours tonight but my bestie, Ellen, showed up. Have you ever wondered where to even START with grooming when you get a new puppy?! Doodles are a little more in the "high maintenance" department when it comes to grooming - but don't worry, we got you! We start all our puppies on a grooming regimen at 2 weeks old here, but here are more things YOU can do when your pup comes home! Here are a few pointers: 👉🏻 Start your puppy with professional grooming at 12 weeks old, and just ask for the 3 F's...Face, Feet, and Fanny! This will get your pup used to regular groomings! 👉🏻 Regularly play with your puppy's ears and feet! This will get them used to these parts of their bodies being handled and desensitize them to strangers needing to do these sorts of things when they go to be groomed 👉🏻 Give your puppy baths home every 2-3 weeks depending on the season. We got to award our FIRST scholarship puppy this past weekend….and she couldn’t have gone to a more deserving family! The Ryan’s had been praying for the right situation to come along for them to be able to adopt a puppy to be trained as a service dog, and when our scholarship came up…they knew they had to apply! It's that time of year again! WINTER SCHOLARSHIP SEASON IS HERE! 🎉 This is our way to give back to the community that has given us so much! If you don't know about this special feature of our program, twice a year (January and July) we offer a limited number of puppy scholarships to qualified candidates who may be going through a hard season or have struggled to adopt a JLDD puppy up until now. These puppies are NOT FREE, but there are 3 different scholarship amounts that you can apply for! There are a few other requirements for our scholarship applicants, but its an excellent opportunity for you if you've been waiting for a unique way to adopt one of our renowned puppies! This is my lovely friend, Dr. Ashley Gray, DVM, who is the medical director at VEG CLT. Although no one wants to have to go to an emergency vet, sometimes things happen! For me, it was an eye issue late one Sunday night earlier this year; Dr. Gray’s team took extraordinary care of me! I loved that they got in the floor with me to treat me, as they do with most of their patients. VEG is different from a lot of animal hospitals in that they are open concept. Parents can stay with their pets the entire time - even during surgery if they choose, and everyone sees everything that is going on around them, which hopefully makes everyone a little more understanding when they have to wait. If you ever have an urgent need (or are traveling and do not have a local vet there), I highly recommend VEG, which has locations throughout the US, but particularly the Charlotte and Asheville, NC locations. They are open 24/7 even on holidays!
