HANDWRITING Handwriting is a difficult task to learn, more for some than others. Left handers have their own set of challenges. I talk about them in other posts. First you need to teach a good pencil grip. Also in other posts. Dotted thirds paper is the best way to start. I get mine at @officeworks. A good solid pencil. By starting with the letter c, you're then able to easily move onto the other letters. a d e g o q I include e as it is a tricky one and I've found that reminding them of the c , helps them remember how to do it. It's also a great one to start with as the capital is the same as the lower case . As always, it's about revision and then more revision, practise and then more practise. "IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD" As a parent I haven't always had a village to support me on the journey of parenthood, which is why this statement resonates strongly with me. We need community and like-minded people around us to help carry and share the responsibility of parenting and educating our children. I know I'm not alone, as I chat with other homeschool families looking for a village that feels right for them. As a former homeschool parent, I struggled to make community a priority with the demands of work and solo parenting taking up most of my time. It's usually not until after 8pm that I have any down time. A memory jogger for spelling can be really helpful. The students love this one. Would, could & should tend to be difficult to remember, especially for those with dyslexia. Sure, I teach the phonemes first. w/oul/d But, it's still difficult to remember the order of the vowels for them, generally. This helps them keep the letters in correct order and it's fun. It always makes us giggle when they are saying it as they write it. Teach these three words together. Practise putting them in sentences and then writing the sentences . Remember.. practise, revision and repetition. Cutting Carrots! ๐ฅ A fun, practical and visual way to support children in segmenting and blending especially to practise spotting digraphs and trigraphs within words. I created a few carrots using card and orange playdough and placed out some magnetic letters to use as stamps to build words. This can be adapted depending on what you want to focus on. If you want children to concentrate on segmenting then the adult can stamp the words into the carrots and children can use a knife (obviously child friendly) to cut the word into its individual sounds.
