Ikram 🥀 In this collection, the author speaks about loss, grief, family dynamics and trauma, and the effects all these have had in her life. She is very caring and mindful about her emotions and about others', from even the note included in the beginning of the book regarding the content. The book is short but packed and vulnerable, and feels like the poems have been slowly collected and tied together beautifully. As I was reading them, I could feel a string that tied them all together, and I felt the growth in the author's voice, in her emotions. Poetry is always extremely, deeply personal, and the poems that resonated with me may not resonate with someone else. Either way, the magic of poetry is that it can always resonate with people with different backgrounds, and you can always find a piece of yourself, of your feelings and fears, in poetry. Yearning for Fragility, Missed Chance, and The Eldest Daughter were the poems that tugged at my heart the most. I've also included, in the second slide, some verses that I especially liked. “The Passion for the Stress of Strain” by Dashiell Grey. This poem is about administering what is right for the circumstance instead of acting on preconceived notions and routine; what is right may even be to surpass feelings to act on what is right. Pan is a folk character of Greek mythology. He is the Greek god of shepherds and the wilderness, and thus he acts on, though it is implied, his inclinations in the wilderness. He also carries a pan flute and is often depicted dancing. When he no longer has his flute, it stops him from dancing, but he starts up again, without his typical source of inspiration—this may be a stretch on my part. It is through this sudden change that he finds an alternative route to joy. That would be spontaneity and the omittance of external reasoning—doing what one wanted to do without having the “essential” incentives. QOTD: What are some of your favorite tracks from TTPD? If you haven’t listened, what’s your favorite album at the moment? 💿 . . . So I’m still taking it all in! 31 songs is a lot to delve in and process and since it was my birthday weekend and I had a friend in town, I haven’t zoned into the album like I normally do. . My first impression of the album was that it wasn’t what I was expecting, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it definitely had me thrown for a loop. I also don’t keep up with a ton of fan theories of stuff because most of them, if I’m being honest, tend to be wrong… so unless I can clearly see Taylor trying to show us something I ignore it it, so I think it was like the day before or the day of where I actually started considering this could be a double album. . I think this album experience is going to be similar to “evermore” where is the more I listen to it the more I’m going to love it. Currently my favorite tracks are: 🎶 Peter 🎶 loml 🎶 Fortnight 🎶 But Daddy, I Love Him 🎶 The Prophecy . In another universe, I meet my father when he is a child. We play catch in the woods and as we play he tells me he isn't allowed to cry but sometimes the world hurts him and he doesn't know what to do with all that pain. So I give him the shoulder he needs to cry on. And he does. He does until the tears are done. Afterwards, I buy him ice cream and I listen to his laugh, the glowing warm laugh of a child who knows he is safe. I wish someone could have done that for him.
