“Rockland Palace” Accepted Into Its First Film Festival What better way to kick off Black History Month than the get an acceptance notice for our new Queer Harlem Renaissance (short) short, “Rockland Palace”? Organized by the Black Hamilton Lodge of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, the Hamilton Lodge Ball was known simply as the Faggots’ Ball by the 1920s and attracted up to 8,000 dancers and spectators at the height of its popularity. Shoga’s stylized film contextualizes snippets of conversation actually heard at the drag and published in the scandalous 1933 gay novel, “The Young and Evil.” TAG! Queer Shorts Festival is an international showcase, based in Portland, Oregon, featuring works made exclusively by queer and trans directors. Throughout the 70's in East Northport, my mom listened to music on this transistor radio in the kitchen… usually that easy listening stuff on FM 100 (Muzak). At night, while doing the dishes, she would listen to Mystery Theater on the CBS radio network. I have no idea what happened to that radio after we moved to Chicago in 1981, but last week I found the precise model on Ebay. It was manufactured in 1968 only. I just bought it as a Christmas present for her. It arrived today. It actually sounds amazing after 55 years. MEET THE TEAM: Paul is a Local 600 1st AC, freelance DP, and FAA certified Drone Operator. He has worked on a variety of projects from sports and local news stories to commercials and feature films. Paul gets excited about new technologies, and his passion is finding the right tools to express a story’s emotions to impact others. MEET THE TEAM: MAXIMILIEN Maximilien Blanc is a London-born, French-American actor, editor and director based in Los Angeles. His editing work includes the Emmy Award winning series The Shop, produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter. His recent acting work includes Nicely Entertainment's "Love at the Lodge", People Watching's "Who's Talkin' About Alice?" feature film "Paradox", and the upcoming film "The Twilight Cafe". He's currently super excited to be bringing the role of Conrad to life in Emma Grace Lukens' short film "Stuck," alongside Mary Frances Noser. MEET THE TEAM: Raina was raised by an art teacher mother, a movie-obsessed father, and siblings who always joined them in their world of make-believe. They grew up performing music, studying theatre, and painting their heart out. After earning a degree in filmmaking, Raina jumped from set to set, produced documentary works + music videos, and eventually settled into photography as their main medium. Acting as Director of Photography/Associate Producer is a welcomed little rendezvous back into the world of filmmaking. Currently living in karaoke & barbecue-filled Koreatown, Los Angeles - Raina travels often, shoots always, and sleeps never.
MEET THE TEAM: AN ACTOR/PRODUCER OF "STUCK,"Mary Frances is just overjoyed to be working on this project with so many of her all-time favorite human beings. She is a queer actor and writer originally from Nashville, Tennessee. LA credits include Refuge at the 2022 Hollywood Fringe Festival (playwright, MYRA), Birds of a Feather Reading by Emma Grace Lukens(Robin) His Royal Faking Highness(ROSIE) with Tandon Productions, Epiphany(Short, directed by Katya Croddy) with UCLA Summer Institute, and "Kat" in LOCKER ROOM TALK with SORORITY, produced by gina young. Other Playwriting credits include Leave, prod. by Emerson Stage, and Lucy, prod by Mercutio Troupe. Film producing credits include Intertitle (dir. Nicholas Burns) and Lottery Ticket (dir. Kenzie Woodrow), both coming in 2024. Proud graduate of Emerson College BFA in Theater and Performance) and London Dramatic Academy(Acting Certificate). As always, a huge thanks to my family for their constant steadfast belief in me. This one is for those who've loved someone else a long, long time, and are finally able to share why.
MEET THE TEAM: Emma Grace Lukens, the writer and director of “Stuck,” is a trans, nonbinary artist who recommitted to their first love, writing, after graduating from Emerson College. Their BFA in Theater and Performance informs their work with a love of the dramatic and their Art History minor is proof of their desire to be immersed in beauty. In 2018 Emma self-published a book of poetry called “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly,” and their play “Birds of a Feather” is in development for a full production after a staged reading at The Zephyr Theatre this past February. Walks with their dog, Luna are perhaps the loveliest part of Emma’s wonderful life in Los Angeles.
