The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell was the French Toast Mysterious Book Club April Book! Our meeting was this morning, thank you for all my virtual book club friends that make book club so lovely! -historic fiction- sixteenth century- Italy- duchess- artists- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 this novel was heartbreaking, sad and yet utterly captivating. French Toast thinks you should read this book purely to have a conversation with someone about it. 📚APRIL WRAP UP📚 It’s been such a busy month and I have another busy week ahead, so I figured I’d put my April reading recap post up early. It was a so-so month...I found a new favorite in THE HUSBANDS and I enjoyed THE GREAT DIVIDE, but I struggled with some of my reads as well. I wanted to love WANDERING STARS by Tommy Orange, but overall I felt it needed more plot than what this character-driven story had to offer...maybe I would have understood the writing style more if I had read THERE THERE prior to picking up this one. THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR was a miss for me as well after hearing so many raves. Here are my rankings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ • The Husbands by Holly Gramazio • The Great Divide by Cristina Henríquez ⭐⭐⭐ • Good Material by Dolly Alderton • This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone • Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange • The Morningside by Téa Obreht Now onwards to May! What was your favorite April read? #sundayreading #thehusbands #goodmaterial #aprilwrapup #readingrecap #bookstagram #botm #bookofthemonth #thegreatdivide #wanderingstars #themorningside #thisishowyoulosethetimewar #favoritebooks #bookfothemonthclub #historicalfiction #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #bookcommunity #readingcommunity #booksbooksbooks #whattoreadnext

ARC REACTION | The Lamplighter by @crystaljbell - coming 21 May I was blown away by this book. There’s no other way to put it. The building tension? The mystery? The /ending/?? I can’t speak highly enough of it. It’s made me rethink how I rate books entirely because this is a 6-star read for me. 🤣 Tempe was such a relatable character to me: she works hard, trying to fill her father’s shoes, but despite all that she does, she doesn’t feel like she fits in with her mother and sister - not to mention the rest of the town. And she makes mistakes! She owns up to them when she can, but she does make mistakes. And boy, the consequences?? The spooky New England village vibes, the hidden motives of those in the town, and the gorgeous writing that brought it all to life… It all worked for me! I can’t wait for you all to read this one. __________ #books #bookcommunity #reading #arc #thelamplighter #crystaljbell #netgalley #historicalfiction #youngadult #horror

@ladyreadsthebooksclub April book club pick was The House of Eve by Sadequa Johnson. It’s one of those stories that is hard to put down because your heart goes out to the characters and you become immersed in their world. The quote in the first picture pulled at my heart the most because it captured so beautifully the sacrifices one of the main characters makes to break generational poverty to chart a new path. There has been a lot of buzz about this book and rightly so. I highly recommend it for the story, but also to take a peek in an often looked over part of history relating to teen pregnancy. #historicalfiction #bookclub #bookclubfavorites #bookworm #booklover #booknerd #bookstagram #houseofeve #sadequajohnson #womenfiction

Kindred By: @octaviaebutler Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars I finished this book earlier this month and went into it completely blind. I gotta say it’s nothing I expected it to be. The only way I could describe this book was strange and amazing at the same time. 🤣🤣 I most definitely didn’t expect this book to be a bit science fiction. The MC Dana is brave because ain’t not way would I want to go back and continue to help Rufus. 😂🤣Kindred was a bit hard to read at times but I still really enjoyed it. Now will I watch the series on Hulu? I’m not sure. 👀😬 💭QOTD: What’s a book that you could read but wouldn’t watch if it was a TV show/ movie? ******* #octaviaebutler #kindred #historicalfiction #wellreadwoman #bookstagram #📚

My Anzac weekend read was the lovely story - The Last Dress in Paris by Jade Beer. This dual timeline novel is set in London 2017 and Paris 1952. It tells the story of Lucille, whose beloved grandmother, Sylvie sends her to Paris to retrieve a much loved gown she wore decades before. Lucille finds not one dress but a collection of priceless Dior gowns and a trail of hidden secrets. 1952, Alice Ainsley is a British diplomat’s wife with a glittering life in Paris. Trapped in a loveless marriage Alice finds herself yearning to follow her heart no matter how dire the consequences. This one is a must read for lovers of Dior , romance and fashion. #buzzingaboutbooks @shesocietyau #historicalfiction #diorlovers #frenchsetting

I’ve been a longtime Amy Harmon fan. And when I found out she was writing a book about a famous wild west outlaw, I knew it would be right up my alley! But this book was very different than I expected. It was heavy, but hopeful. It’s like getting through every page was a battle. Not because it was badly written (it’s Amy Harmon for Lord’s sake. She can’t write a bad book). It was a battle because there’s so much pain on so many of the pages. No one walks away unscathed. The ending isn’t traditionally happy. But redemption and peace are found by the characters in the book. This book grips you from the start. Amy excels at making you feel the things that her characters feel, and this book is no exception. You feel every emotion that they feel and the story will stay with you long after the book is finished. The Outlaw Noble Salt was a very pleasant surprise. And I loved every minute of it, even the painful ones. #SarahsBooks #HistoricalFiction #WildWest #ButchCassidy #NewReads #HistoricalRomance #FavoriteAuthor #OnMyBookshelf #2024GoodreadsChallenge

If the Tide Turns was the perfect Historical Fiction. The perfect mix of historical facts, legends and folklore. I am a huge history buff so I already knew the legend of the pirate Samuel Bellamy and of his love interest accused witch Goody Hallett. I loved the different perspectives in this story from the women accused of witchcraft, the sailors that became pirates, the indigenous people whose land was stolen ,and the men and women sold into slavery in the new world. This was a great retelling and take on the legend. Definitely a 5 ⭐book. @rachelrueckert did a fabulous job . #ifthetideturns #rachelrueckert #booklover #rachelrueckertauthor #pirates #accusedwitche #legend #samuelbellamy #goodyhallett #reader #historicalfiction #historicalromance #bookish #bookreview #bookrecommendations #booknerd #booksdoitforme #buffalobookstagrammers #historicalfictionreader #fivestarbook #lovetoread #bookworm. #bibliophile #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #bookstagram

Once again, a historical fiction novel made its way into my hands!!! 😆 The American Daughters is set in the French Quarters of New Orleans, Louisiana (one of my favorite places) provides a glimpse in the life of a mother (Sanite) and daughter (Ady) who are enslaved to a prominent man. After being separated from her mother, Ady joins The Daughters, a spy group that helps women slaves in their quest to freedom. This is a story of rebellion, liberation, courage, and sisterhood. The author crafted an incredibly written story. However, I found the placement of some of the “artifacts” hard to follow. The Epilogue did help to make connections and bring closure for me as the reader. #readingwhilewriting #historicalfiction

Warm Hands of Ghosts By Katherine Arden This book is a historical fiction novel with a little bit of magic realism. I loved this book so much! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ During the end of WW1, Canadian siblings Laura and Freddie are fighting in Europe. Laura is injured while serving as a nurse. She is sent home. Soon Laura is sent Freddie’s belongings but she is not sure he’s dead. She tries to find a way back to the front lines to find out what happened to her brother. The writing in the book is absolutely beautiful! It reminded me of Kristin Hannah. It also has gothic and magic elements. This is a little out of my comfort zone and I’m so glad I gave it a chance. I think this will be in my top 10 this year! @arden_katherine #whatimreading #bookstgram #bookst #booklover #aprilreads #historicalfiction #lovetoread #bookrecs #reading

Just finished reading Susan Meissner's SECRETS OF A CHARMED LIFE and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's WWII historical fiction that takes place during the London Blitz. Most of the WWII novels that I have read take place on the continent. I had a really tough time putting this one down and found the ending to be an emotional one. SYNOPSIS: PRESENT DAY, OXFORD, ENGLAND 🇬🇧. Young American scholar Kenra Van Zant, eager to pursue her vision of a perfect life, interviews Isabel MacFarland just when the elderly woman is ready to give up secrets about the war she has kept for decades....beginning with who she really is. What Kendra receives from Isabel is both a gift and a burden - one that will test her convictions and her heart. 1940's ENGLAND 🇬🇧. As Hitler wages an unprecedented war against London's civilian population, more than a million children are evacuated for foster homes in the rural countryside. But even as fifteen year old Emmy Downtree and her much younger sister, Julia, find refuge in a charming Cotswold cottage, Emmy's burning ambition to return to the city and apprentice with a fashion designer pits her against Julia's profound need for her sister's presence. Acting at cross-purposes just as the Luftwaffe rains down its terrible destruction, the sisters are cruelly separated and their lives are transformed... I've read two previous novels by Susan, and now she is going to be an automatic buy for me ❤️ @susanmeissnerauthor #canadianreader #historicalfiction #wwiinovel #penguinrandomca @penguinrandomca #secretsofacharmedlife #londonblitz #bookishpost #readerforlife

📚How often do you use the library? I don’t as often as I used to but they have always been a safe haven for me. 📚MISS MORGAN’S BOOK BRIGADE By: @jskesliencharles 4.30.24 1918: As the Great War rages, Jessie Carson takes a leave of absence from the New York Public Library to work for the American Committee for Devastated France. Founded by millionaire Anne Morgan, this group of international women help rebuild destroyed French communities just miles from the front. Upon arrival, Jessie strives to establish something that the French have never seen—children’s libraries. She turns ambulances into bookmobiles and trains the first French female librarians. Then she disappears. 1987: When NYPL librarian and aspiring writer Wendy Peterson stumbles across a passing reference to Jessie Carson in the archives, she becomes consumed with learning her fate. In her obsessive research, she discovers that she and the elusive librarian have more in common than their work at New York’s famed library, but she has no idea their paths will converge in surprising ways across time. ________________________________________________ Thank you so much to @tlcbooktours & @atriabooks for sending me this beautiful book. Palestinian writer Basim Khandaqji, jailed 20 years ago in Israel, won a prestigious prize for Arabic fiction on Sunday for his novel A Mask, the Colour of the Sky. The award of the 2024 International Prize for Arabic Fiction was announced at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi. The prize was accepted on Khandaqji’s behalf by Rana Idriss, owner of Dar al-Adab, the book’s Lebanon-based publisher. Khandaqji was born in the Israeli-occupied West Bank city of Nablus in 1983, and wrote short stories until his arrest in 2004 at the age of 21. He was convicted and jailed on charges relating to a deadly bombing in Tel Aviv, and completed his university education from inside prison via the internet. The mask in the novel’s title refers to the blue identity card that Nur, an archaeologist living in a refugee camp in Ramallah, finds in the pocket of an old coat belonging to an Israeli. Khandaqji’s book was chosen from 133 works submitted to the competition. Nabil Suleiman, who chaired the jury, said the novel “dissects a complex, bitter reality of family fragmentation, displacement, genocide, and racism”.

💫 Book club review - The Women by Kristin Hannah Our latest read for book club was from Kristin Hannah. We have previously enjoyed several of her historical fiction works (notably The Nightingale and The Great Alone) and were looking forward to this story that centres on the role of women during the Vietnam war. We especially enjoyed the first half of the novel, which focused on Frankie’s experiences as a surgical nurse in Vietnam. We had some critiques on the second half, which dealt with the protagonist trying to integrate back into civilian life in America. We thought the author was a bit heavy handed with the amount of traumas Frankie experienced, leading the novel into melodrama territory. There were mixed feelings regarding the amount of references to the sixties/seventies the author jammed in. We also thought the book might have benefited from having multiple PoVs. Our favourite characters were Barb and Henry, while our least favourite characters were Rye, and Frankie’s father. Overall ratings were high, ranging from 3.5 to 5 stars. The book lent itself well to interesting discussion points and we had fun dream casting the characters (Austin Butler as Rye for example)! 4Stars ⭐️ - 4.02 Goodreads ⭐️ - 4.68

This was a pretty good book. I’ve read a historical romance book by Josi S. Kilpack before, and I did like it but I wasn’t sure if I’d like any of her other books, but I liked this one. The characters in this story had a class difference. He’s a wealthy landowner who is now inheriting a title form his uncle and she’s simply a woman who used to work in service. Another thing I liked about this story is that it was a romance for an older couple. They are both in their forties, have children, and spouses who are deceased. I liked reading about a historical romance where the characters weren’t young and previously unmarried. I thought the story would be a little bit less interesting than it was. It was definitely more interesting than I thought and there were a lot more interesting side characters than I expected. I actually ended up enjoying it a lot more than expected. The ending was also adorably dramatic and romantic, and I loved the way the characters interacted. The spice level was a level one. Overall, I really liked this book and would give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 star rating. 100% would recommend it to historical romance lovers. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewer #bookreviewers #historicalromance #historicalfiction #romancenovels #historicalromancenovel #historicalromancebooks #thevaletssecret #josiskilpack #kilpack

“Sometimes,” Iris began, “I don’t think we know what we’re made of until the worst moment possible happens. Then we must decide who we truly are and what is most important to us. I think we’re often surprised by what we become.” Genre Romantacy Rating ⭐️⭐️💫/5 This is part two of the Letters for Enchantment series, if you’ve not read Divine Rivals and plan on doing so please skip my review for now and come back once you’re done. Only two weeks have passed since Iris returned home with a broken heart. The war is not over and Roman is still missing. Iris and Attie are given another chance to head westward closer to danger, closer to him. Since waking up Roman has no memories. He begins writing articles for Dacre, when a strange letter arrives by wardrobe Roman is at first suspicious then intrigued. Suddenly torn between doing what he’s told and saving something he can’t remember. I will apologise in advance if you enjoyed this book, I wish I had DNF’d it. I did have high expectations for this one but went in with an open mind, it missed the mark, the story line was flawed, it was rushed in pasts and others I just wished it was end already. An anticlimactic end to this duology, could have been a stand-alone.

Nope. I wanted to know what the fuss was about with this one and I can see why it got popular, and also I hated it September of 1939 finds 2 sisters forced together in rural France as history erupts around them. One sister yet chooses to stand up to the invaders, while the other thinks if she can keep her head down she and her daughter will be safe. Before the end both will have to fundamentally change their thoughts on what it means to be French and to be human I can see why this appeals to a lot of people, particularly the Bookclub set. It’s a relatively palatable resistance tale, set in World War II with the romantic scenery of France sprinkled throughout. I personally found it very predictable in the it hit all the major plot points that you always see in a book like this and had just enough female empowerment in there to appeal to Bookclub set without going so far as to put anyone off. I know many find this an amazing book and if you read it and liked it good for you but it was not the book for me, not at all #thenightingale #kristenhannah #historicalfiction #itsanofromme #bookreview

All of the opinions are my own. Thank you Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley! I enjoy reading the book, but there are some parts of it that I probably don't like. The ending is not what I expected to come. One thing I like about the book is the setting, which is the 1920s (imagine the fashion). I have mixed feelings about the main character, Helen. She overreacts most of the things. Overall, The Philadelphia Heiress is a decent book. ʀᴀᴛɪɴɢ: 3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐✨ ───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰ ─── #books #book #bookreview #arcreview #netgalley #instareads #thephiladelphiaheiress #anitaabriel #historicalfiction #arcbook #booklover

Her reporting throws her directly across the path of Scotland Yard inspector Thomas Marlowe, who is intent on keeping the details of his inquiry out of the headlines. But Catriona is no stranger to the murder victim, and as she delves ever deeper into the circumstances surrounding his death, she discovers a scheme of blackmail that creeps from the darkest slums to the parlours of the aristocracy. When a second killing shocks London, leaving no one above suspicion, she and Marlowe must set aside their rivalry to unmask the killer before he strikes again—and before Catriona makes herself his next victim. • • • #bookstagram #ebooksale #kindleunlimited #authorsofinstagram #histfic #historicalfiction #historicalmystery #mystery #murdermystery

Why did I put off reading a Kristin Hannah book for so long??? These were both easy 5 ⭐️ reads ! The emotion that she puts on these pages is insane and I can honestly say I’ve never cried as hard over a book as I did in these two. If you haven’t read these, do yourself a favour and go read them. But bring a box of Kleenex with you! Have you read these? What other Kristin Hannah book should I read next ? . The Women - nursing in the Vietnam war and the lack of support and recognition women received after coming home! 🥺 The Great Alone - a family moves to find solitude in Alaska. Three Sisters - Heather Morris ▪️ (BOOK 3/3) ▪️ 4/5 ▪️ This is the final book in the Tattooist of Auschwitz trilogy and is based on the true story of three sisters: Cibi, Magda, and Livi. They make a promise to their father at very young ages to protect each other always and never leave each other’s side. We follow their journey of becoming prisoners in Auschwitz and learn of how they survived, escaped, and held on to hope for their futures. A really beautiful story about family and hope and love. The writing was a bit slow in some parts but overall a great story. The authors note at the end made this all the more special. She shares photos of the real people this story is about and I thought that was really neat. The Meller sisters are a true inspiration.▪️ #book #books #bookstagram #booklover #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookreader #bookclub #bookcommunity #read #reading #readmorebooks #historicalfiction #thebooksynop #heathermorris #threesisters #tattooistofauschwitz #bookblog

Elizabeth Jane Howard’s Cazalet Chronicles might be my favourite discovery of the year and I am trying REALLY hard to pace myself through them. I love them so much, they are such a joy to have discovered and be reading for the first time. I can only imagine how many times I might have read them by now if I’d found them 10-15 years ago. Currently on book 3 - Confusion - pictured here with the beautiful cover art by Luke Edward Hall. 📙 Confusion by Elizabeth Jane Howard (The Cazalet Chronicles Volume 3) #confusion #cazaletchronicles #elizabethjanehoward #historicalfiction #britishliterature #readingrecommendations #readinglists

✨Madison’s Book Review✨ Trying to read more historical fiction in 2024! Synopsis: It is the spring of 1939 and three generations of the Kurc family are doing their best to live normal lives, even as the shadow of war grows closer. The talk around the family Seder table is of new babies and budding romance, not of the increasing hardships threatening Jews in their hometown of Radom, Poland. But soon the horrors overtaking Europe will become inescapable and the Kurcs will be flung to the far corners of the world, each desperately trying to navigate his or her own path to safety.  As one sibling is forced into exile, another attempts to flee the continent, while others struggle to escape certain death, either by working grueling hours on empty stomachs in the factories of the ghetto or by hiding as gentiles in plain sight. Driven by an unwavering will to survive and by the fear that they may never see one another again, the Kurcs must rely on hope, ingenuity, and inner strength to persevere. Review: This book has been sitting on my shelf for years and years, but since it is now a tv series on @hulu I was finally motivated to pick it up. This was a very interesting look at how one Jewish family was affected in MANY different ways during World War II. Once I read the author’s note, I was amazed to hear this is the author Georgia Hunter’s family’s story. I liked how it alternated perspectives between each of the family members as they were all very spread out over the world. They went through true hell to stay alive and help one another. This was a book that will stick with me for a long while and I definitely plan to watch the TV series! 'Sovereign' by C.J. Sansom ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sansom's done it again! Another brilliant piece of historical fiction, embedding mystery and mayhem, plotting and puzzle solving into the rich historical background of the Tudors (this time the Pilgrimage of Grace and the fall of Catherine Howard). The court intrigue, the politics, the mysteries, the betrayal, the grief, all are written well and come across powerfully. I absolutely love how Sansom portrays Henry VIII, he'd be turning in his grave and that's how it should be. So many twists and turns in this one. I can never fully solve Sansom's puzzles, sometimes I het halfway there, other times I am way off base. Everyone is a suspect, all the time, you feel the worry, the suspicion Shardlake feels towards everyone as he struggles to piece everything together, while having to deal with past enemies, current insults and pompous lords. Truly, the depth of Sansom's research is apparent in the realistic setting he builds up, the way he portrays the north/south animosity, the descriptions of old England, the politics, the judgements, expectations and beliefs. Although he writes dramatic mysteries, sometimes based solely on rumours or falsities, he manages to do it in a way that does not, ultimately, disrupt the historical course of things. Henry remains king, Howard falls, the conspiracy crushed. It's so well done. The only negative is that they can drag out a bit. It takes a second to get into the book and often when progress is made another issue arises pushing them back. However, it's still a thoroughly enjoyable book and I look forward to the next. Despite his adamance he will be involved in no more political intrigue and dangerous mysteries, I have a feeling Shardlake won't get off so easy! 💛 #bookreview #bookrecommendations #bookrecommendation #bookrecs #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksta #bookaddict #booknerd #booklover #historicalfiction #historicalfictionbooks #shardlake #readersofinstagram #reading #readingaddict #readingcommunity #bookcommunity

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel 🐺 Wolf Hall has been a #WolfCrawl for the last 4 months and whilst my crawl has wavered between the weekly reading and short bursts of bingeing multiple chapters to catch up, I have learnt a lot from @footnotes.and.tangents fantastic posts and resources even having spent a long time studying the Tudors at school so that I loved. I've also learnt that I'm not naturally inclined to stick to reading schedules or slow reads... If you aren't aware, I've been joining in Simon's year long readalong of the trilogy which has involved an incredible amount of research as each week he puts up an excellent post summarising the chapters and discussing the big themes of each section. Bring Up the Bodies reading begins tomorrow so I finished just in time, and I will be continuing in a similar wave of slow and chaotic reading. I've enjoyed delving into the richness of Mantel's writings and the conversations she crafts, the back stories she embellishes. All these little touches in historical fiction we just will never know about. From conversations between Henry and Cromwell about the sadness of lost sisters, to barbs and political jockeying in the court. Mantel offers a lot of depth to Thomas Cromwell's story and it certainly builds slowly at over 600 pages she does not rush through these events. Wolf Hall treats us to the downfall of Wolsey, the passing over of Katherine for Anne, the birth of Elizabeth and the establishment of Henry as head of the Church of England. These are all such pivotal points in British history and Mantel offers us more intrigue, character and tension which is utterly delightful. Taking on Wolf Hall is certainly a challenge, but once I found myself swept up in the story and I got used to the style I really enjoyed it. At times I did find myself having to look up again who certain people were as there are a lot of them to keep track of. Simon's posts were a great help here and the summaries which really helped me to keep track of everything going on [Cont. In comments]

The Burnings by Naomi Kelsey Another book about witches! This one being historical fiction. Set in 16th century Scotland, this book explores the witch trials of North Berwick and how grim of a time it was to be a woman, especially one with a traditional knowledge of herbs and healing. Over 100 people (mostly women) were accused of being witches. Most were tortured, and following that, would confess. (Because why wouldn’t you?! Burning at the stake would be preferable over continuous torture) This was such a dark period of history and after reading this book, I found myself falling down the rabbit hole and spending hours researching more and more. I’d definitely recommend this book based on the history itself. The characters fell a bit flat for me, but I was so engrossed in the story that it didn’t bother me too much. A solid read for sure!

Miss Morgan's Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles comes out Tuesday and I'm SO excited!! In honor of her upcoming release, I did a quick interview with her – I have you enjoy it as much as I did! Me: Can you give us a quick overview of Miss Morgan's Book Brigade coming out this Tuesday? Janet: It’s the incredible true story of the American Committee for Devastated France, a group of international women who worked just forty miles from the front in order to help civilians. My novel focuses on librarian Jessie Carson, who created the first children’s libraries in France, mainly in villages that had been turned into rubble by the German army. Many of the volunteers were wealthy society ladies like Anne Morgan, daughter of financier JP Morgan. Jessie Carson came from humbler beginnings and navigated not only landmines, but big egos and heartbreak. Me: What was a fascinating historical nugget you found while doing research? Janet: A handwritten letter from Jessie Carson to her mother. I was equally thrilled and devastated to read it – Jessie’s family was dead set against her going to the War Zone. The letter conveyed how starstruck Carson was by Anne Morgan, and also how destitute Carson was. Historian Gail Baden purchased it on eBay, and I am grateful to her for sharing it. Me: What is something you hope people come away with after having read Miss Morgan's Book Brigade? Janet: How fascinating women’s history is, and how we all have a role to play in keeping our history alive. The women in the Committee and later the Goodwill Tour, were from most of the 48 States, including my native Montana. I hope that this book will encourage readers to look into the World War I stories of women from their own regions. Make sure you preorder your copy – link in Janet’s bio: @jskesliencharles

• • • • • #germanico #valeriomassimomanfredi #historicalfiction #historicalfictionbooks #romanzostorico #bookworm #booklover #spqr #imperoromano #arminius

Week 17 recap: Funny People by Emily Henry My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Goodreads Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.47) I’ve become a huge Emily Henry Fan the past year. By the time I caught up with all of her published work, I was a few months away from Funny Story’s release. It was worth the way and I enjoyed it so much! It has the second slot and was so close to tiring for first place with Beach Read! IOU Book # 2: What Happened To You? By Bruce D. Perry and Oprah Winfrey My rating: ⭐️ (DNF) Goodreads rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.45) Maybe I’m just out of my self help book era but I DNF this book. Self help books have been hitting me with solid 2 stars lately. I’m sad that I DNF the book while the Goodreads rating was almost 4.5. What did I miss? Why didn’t it click for me? All I know is that it’s off my physical bookshelf and on the pile of books to be donated. Maybe someone else can enjoy it. 2024, IOU one book and I’ll be back on track. This weeks highlights: Day trip to Monterey, Ca with my friend. We did Bookclub things: Walked around Cannery Row, Ed Rickett’s Lab, etc. which were featured in Lindsay Hutton’s book: Monterey Bay. Spent a couple of hours at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
