Did some kitchen organizing over the weekend. Forgot to snap a before pic of my spice and baking cabinet, but, trust me, it was bad. Now all of my cake and cupcake decorating stuff is neatly tucked into those cute light pink bins so I can easily find stuff! The weather is FINALLY starting to maybe resemble the beginnings of Spring 🙌🏽 which I think helped motivate me to participate in @nestingwithgrace #MarieKondoMondays This is our master bath linen closet, but also the only linen closet we have upstairs at all! I’ll walk ya through what you’re lookin’ at 🙂 Top shelf: toilet paper storage Shelf 2: “Beauty”, “Hair” and “Manly Care” baskets (I didn’t know what to label all of Caleb’s bathroom things 😂) Shelf 3: Extra bath towels Shelf 4 (swipe): Extra bedsheets for both beds upstairs Shelf 5: Beach towels, travel toiletry bags, and Caleb’s hair clippers set Floor: Half of our shower shelf (we only went up halfway in our bathroom) and all the other random things. Bulky medicine and stuff that we would only need once in a blue moon are at the bottom of that blue basket, and on top are 2 bins. One for our contacts and glasses and the other for travel toiletries we’ve collected over the years that we’ll use when we fly That’s it! And you might be wondering why there’s empty space next to the toilet paper and really that’s just because I don’t have anything else to put there now! Don’t be afraid of empty spaces 😉 Any linen closet storage tips you know of?? ✨
So....closets and organization are my nemesis. They are the last thing that I think to take care of, and so every time I open the door to one, it’s stressful because of the chaos and the yellowy tan paint on the walls. 😱 You can’t find anything amidst the disaster...things sometimes fall down on you and you also don’t know when you last used most of the stuff, so why is it there? 🤷🏼♀️ Between binge watching episodes of @mariekondo on Netflix in January and Brooke’s @nestingwithgrace Monday organizing features, it became very apparent that I need to take back my spaces. I didn’t want to feel stress when I opened the door...I wanted everything to be tidy and leave me peaceful. So I took a couple days to clear everything out, painted, covered the shelves in faux marble contact paper, and then organized. There’s actually space in here now that I got rid of the million things I didn’t need. Everything is tidy and has a home! Nothing is piled up on the floor! It’s amazing! My husband thought we should organize but painting wasn’t needed. It seems like EVERYBODY is organizing their spice drawers, cabinets etc. and they all look AMAZING! But, I didn’t have the extra money to purchase new pretty glass jars for everything. So, I went and purchased this $8 step shelf and it totally transformed my cabinet. I wish I would have grabbed a before photo, but I forgot. I can assure you, it was a disaster! This is so much more organized and clean looking than I what I had before. And easy to maintain! The white bin has baking type spices, extracts, baking soda/powder etc. I’m too short to see what’s up there if I put another step shelf up there. So, I love that I can just pull the whole bin down and get what I need. My youngest daughter’s closet was a disaster. Always such a mess, and the bypass doors made it really hard to see what was in there, put things in and take things out. I decided it was finally time to get it organized and I’m so pleased with how it turned out! The curtain makes it easy to access everything and the new bins and shelves are great for her small clothes and toys. Ella requested a bigger desk (yes, it is still small). She did use her mini desk so often I was happy to oblige. I took a $50 desk and made them both to fit each of their personalities (swipe to see before). I had plans to paint both desks pink and last minute had to run to the store, then I saw the blue. I came home and surprised Ella with the new color. She had a big smile on her face, that then made a little project into something so much greater. It now became- I SEE you. I PAY ATTENTION to what you like. I LOVE you. It’s more than just painting a desk. Yesterday this was an old piece of stock artwork that no longer sparked joy with me! Instead of discarding it I decided to upcycle it. I painted the frame, as well as the glass.. and then went to town with some multipurpose acrylic paint... voila! I think it’s going to be the focal point of my spring mantel. I own way more jewelry than makes sense for how often I wear it! Last summer I did a major purge, getting rid of over a dozen pairs of earrings, a couple bracelets and rings, and several necklaces. I’ve been trying to wear what I have more often since then but I’m still not making much use of my collection. I went through them again today and got rid of what you see in the first picture! The other two photos show my remaining collection. I used to have necklaces hanging from 5 thumb tacks and now there’s only three, but I still only wear a fraction of that. The jewellery box contains my earrings, bracelets and rings. Started as “just organizing” our messy closet into a little bathroom makeover 👏🏻 This bathroom is our main floor bathroom that needs to be highly functional, but wasn’t. I had organized this space before, but never followed Marie Kondo’s method exactly. Taking it ALL out before you start to organize was so helpful! Now every time we open this cupboard it feels awesome, not stressful. Anyone have a cupboard like this?? The things you find when your cleaning out drawers and getting organized! 2 of these medals represent my participation in the full Flying Pig Marathon circa 2000 and 2001 and 2 represent participation in the half marathon.. various years. I’ve been steady cleaning out. I haven’t read Marie Kondo’s book but I do use her envelope folding system for my hubby’s t-shirts. We down sized significantly 8 yrs ago and this is what works in our small space. We have a very small room so instead of dressers I opted for open shelving. Swipe to see his t-shirts in baskets for his storage. The shelves are identical and I have a bench in between them so it’s like a window seat. Remember how I was trying to declutter? 8 bags! Each bag is about 15 lbs, that's over 120lbs of STUFF gone from my life. 4 bags were clothes that nobody wore but somehow kept ending up in the dirty laundry and I was washing it, over and over and over. The other 4 bags were fabric and refashion projects that have been sitting in plastic tubs for the last 4 years, taking up precious space in our small house. Y'all this is just the beginning. This was just the stuff I didn't even have to think about, the stuff I already knew needed to go. *sigh of relief* And the best part, is that this stuff will go on to bless others. A friend saw my decluttering post and let me know that they were a part of a clothing drive to raise money and that she would gladly take all of it. Their team earns money for recycling it and I get a little more peace and a lot less clutter in my life. 🤗 What stuff do you have in your life that you could let go of today?
