So before the pandemic, I came across 1) Marie Kondo 2) Fumio Sasaki 3) Courtney Caver In my many failed attempts to get rid of my things, I have found Marie Kondo’s method fulfilling. It’s called the ‘KonMari’ method. You can check her out in Netflix ‘ Tidying with Marie Kondo’ or you can get her book ‘ The Life-changing magic of tidying up’ What is the ‘KonMari’ method 1) Commit yourself to tidying - when it comes to tidying up the mess, it should be an event. You need to allocate time for it 2) Imagine your ideal life 3) Finish discarding/ putting out all your things 1st before you get rid of it - when you get rid of your things, say thank you to each item - you need to go through each and every one of it 4) Tidy by category and not by location a) clothes b) books c) papers d) komono ( miscellaneous items) e) sentimental items - Make sure that you collect all your items according to category in one place, make sure none of it is left behind and start choosing/ discard/ keep - if you have left it behind, it’s a sign that you’ve got to give it away or throw it away 5) Ask yourself is the things you are keeping ‘Sparks Joy’ in your life You can check her techniques of compartmentalising, arranging and folding in youtube! Tending to daily mundane activities, with presence, is a practice I learned from being on month-long meditation retreats. In monastic settings there is an emphasis on routines, rhythms and tending to the environment with respect. When I work with clients, sometimes clinical goals look very much like cleaning and caring for ADLs. Sometimes setting a self-care goal of taking a shower three times a week can bring the upliftedness and wellbeing needed. When you don’t know what to do, try washing the dishes. Other times, bringing in some fresh flowers to a space can uplift the heart. Chores can be a source of stress and burden, they can also be an opportunity to bring presence and peace into your daily life 💛🌙✨ . My daughter recently told me how much she loved the IKEA soft sided drawer organizers. The problem is IKEA is quite a distance from my home. Yesterday I ran across these soft sided organizers in my local dollar store! Yes, the IKEA organizers are a bit prettier. But hey, for a buck hidden in a drawer, these will do! Who said hidden storage has to be pretty? It just has to be tidy and organized. It cost me $3 and took me all of 15 minutes to dump, sort and organize my sock drawer. Over 500 items gone! Today my husband and I spent the day decluttering our spare room. Over time we’d accumulated lots of things we didn’t require. From books and computer gear, to furniture and old documents (there was a lot of stuff to go through!). Some of it has gone to charity, some of it has gone in the rubbish and some I will put online tomorrow. We did keep some items too! It feels so good to have it sorted now. Do you have a cupboard or room that needs a clear out? There could be items that go to those in need or even some $$ sitting around.
Decluttering my clothing // Today I started category one of @mariekondo’s minimalist approach by sorting through my clothing. A few months ago I had a clear out but I still feel like there is more I could declutter. Let’s be honest, I wear a lot of the same stuff #capsulewardrobe. And lots of items never get worn. Can anyone relate? 😂 I started to sort the items and put them into keep, sell and donate piles. By taking a more minimalist approach to life I will only keep items that I value and brings me joy. As I was sorting, I also started listing items on @trademe, which I would recommend. The others I’ll drop to the charity shop. In my home we have a 11th grader & 1st year college student so we have years of building up school supplies so I think we should be covered before we need to buy specific pens or printer paper & ink. In some client homes there has been such an amass of 🏫 supplies that they donated it. Maybe you’ll find you have accumulated a lot too. Also using Washi tape & stickers can give personality so have these on hand to decorate barely used notebooks 📓 & ring folders as well as containers. Up to now I have not been a fan of rolling clothes à la #mariekondo . Except for packing suitcases as it’s great then. 👚🧳👗 Last week I opened the kids wardrobe to put freshly laundered clothes away. And nearly got hit by an avalanche 🙈. Because to chose a T-shirt they take them all out and after having chosen one, the rest gets crammed back into the wardrobe - the most important thing being that the door can be closed! Which mother here knows that? 😂🙀 Spontaneously I got the idea not only to roll the clothes but also to put for example all the short arm tees, the long arm ones, leggings etc.respectively in a box. That way the kids can take the box out, choose an item and easily put the box back. The kids liked the idea and helped emptying the wardrobe and putting everything away in order. 👚📦👖 I can tell you that the system stood the test. The advantage of it is that they’ve rediscovered some clothes that used to lurk at the bottom of a pile. And I can open the wardrobe without any danger. 👚😂👗 P.S. however I only thought of taking pictures afterwards- otherwise I could have posted some „before“ and „after „ shots. Shame on me 🙈😕

So who else has watched Tidying Up With Marie Kondo? (If not, highly recommended!) We are almost finished with the @mariekondo method in our home & I love how it has added joy into our lives- so of course I had to purchase the book. . I consider myself an organized person but lately I felt like I just couldn’t keep up (A 17 months old can really mix things up!).
