Taking a break after the 4th layer of paint, I need these breaks to reflect. Are the colours right? What about the measurements? The picture is old and the colours faded a bit, it's not a problem because painting requires a different choice of colours. Something I still haven't mastered enough. Shadows in paint are often purple, bright light often bright white, and skin and hair tones can easily contain greens, oranges and even blues.... You get it? I have to change my view, and to accomplish that my perspective on the painting. Next to that I realised today that I once again chose a very difficult picture, when I had not painted for many years. The bright sunlight in the picture causes hard shadows especially on the skin. Now skin tones in itself are hard to get right, let alone choosing and mixing the right colour for the shadow parts. The details in the batik skirt are finely detailed and I like my big, square brushes... that won't do the work this time, so I have to develop painting with small, pointy brushes too. And in all of that it is important to keep what every artist should have, a signature that shows your authenticity. That's what makes the whole thing interesting. In the end I won't paint an exact copy of the picture, but an impression of it that speaks to me. Does it spark joy to you? Cute wee 🍄 dress up from Sunday last week with the Baxtertron. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a coordinated sunshine session and my little friend did not complain! Cute earrings from my cousin as a birthday present last year. I have several memories of mushrooms which I thought about on Sunday: 🍄 My childhood bestie and I used to spend time with her Grandma, who used to eat raw mushrooms as a snack on the way home from the supermarket. I thought that was weird! 🍄 My Grandma loved fairy mushroom lollies. I can see her face lighting up while enjoying them. I enjoyed them too. Hopefully I can find them again one day and think of her as I eat them. 🍄 My Uncle Pete took us into the forest in Waitarere as kids and I remember seeing my first ever red toadstool. The excitement and wonder. Just like in the books! 🍄 I made mushroom soup for our dinner to share with the couple we did pre marriage sessions with. When they heated it up, and brought it out to us, I was like what did you do to my soup to make it so delicious? It was the first time I'd made it and couldn't believe how incredibly good it was. I also love eating mushrooms and they're one of the few veggies I tend to have in the fridge all year round. Maria I've really appreciated your @maquinky junk trunks while my tattoo heals. They've helped me to enjoy the sunshine whilst keeping it covered. I've also appreciated wearing them when I sleep to help prevent me from itching. Grateful for all the clothes you make me. 🙏

Food has never sparked so much joy. I've been doing so much low-buy nesting, and one of the things I've been doing is testing out potential snacks for late nights with Baby when he gets here. Once I find options I love, I'll batch cook them and freeze. Pallet Compost Bins completed! My sister is a prolific gardener and we needed a more effective composting system. Our compost pile (was a a huge pile about 6 feet long by 3 feet deep) had become unmanageable and not conducive to inviting worms or other decomposing elements, other than the deer forging in our compost. Plus it looked awful! Alicia and I consulted with out Uncle Gerard and Aunt Loretta about their compost bins and they sent photos and helpful building tips. Alicia also watches A Greener World, and saw Joe Lamp'l's compost bins made out of pallets as well. We are not quite finished as we need to add a screen cover to keep pine needles from burying our compost bins. Lots and lots of pine tree debris! We are excited to move our soil into the various bins depending upon the stages of decomposition. But we are ready to make beautiful earth and enrich our garden and yard. Can I just say, I’m really enjoying drawing and creating patterns again! For the last about 5 months, I actually stopped drawing and creating patterns. I’m not exactly sure why, but I just lost my joy to create, and I had no motivation to do it! My 5yo daughter actually helped me to enjoy creating art again. She has been asking me to draw with her or paint with her, and so I have. And through creating with her, I’ve started loving doing art again! I’ve also realigned and re-centered myself again, through reading my bible and prayer, which I had neglected. And I find when I neglect this time in my day, I am all over the place, and out of focus. And I think when we realign ourselves with our purpose, it helps us to have clarity. I’m now creating for the love of it! Not trying to please anyone but just doing it in the style and colours that brings me joy. Embracing my take on art. So I hope I can encourage you to create art that you enjoy and that’s for you; and to accept and embrace your take on art. Because it’s unique and needed in the world. And don’t try to please people. Do it for the joy of it. The Citrus and Feijoa’s are starting to ripen in the garden. They often contain hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), which can contaminate our environment. Facilities like the HCCRF collect, dispose of, recycle or reuse these items in an environmentally-responsible manner. HCCRF hours are below. An attendant will help you unload your vehicle and will accept your materials. Tuesday, 7am-12pm Thursday, 2pm-7pm 1st Saturday of every month, 8am-3pm The HCCRF accepts a range of items, including household cleaners, oil-based paints, solvents, cell phones, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), computers and related equipment to name a few.
