I’m calling this one a HALF Disappearing 9 Patch because by cutting your #9patch in half only once, you get 3 solid squares and 3 rectangle/half squares for a fun look! A used a mix of charm packs and scrappy fabric, some from @swansonsfabrics to make this as colorful and old timey looking as possible. I alternated the direction my sets were so it was more of a puzzle than a straight repeat. It came together very quickly. After sewing the blocks together, I sewed 5 inch strip scraps together into strip rolls (2nd photo). I love a #scrappyquilt look and can’t wait to use these strips into another project. A couple months after finishing this half #disappearing9patch #quilt I added a tan flannel border around it. I’ll try to find a photo of that. This has been loved so much by folks, I'm on my second bolt of this fabric. I can't post the pictures of the nurses getting their quilts for privacy reasons, but it does my heart good to bring joy to these recipients. There will be a drawing for each of the 3 shifts, and I added one for nurse administrators. I've been an RN for over 50 years and was a bedside nurse at least half of those. It's a hard job, so I like to cheer them on in this small way. And now I plan a sunshine quilt from the hot, hot, hot colors of @patricklosestudios Glam in the FQ Bundle giveaway. @jennymsqc from #missouristarquiltco has a dresden sunbeam quilt pattern on YouTube that will be perfect. Ten hours later, I have 1,524 pieces of fabric ready to assemble into the #AnnabelleQuilt by @cottonandjoy - this is for the bed quilt size and I’m curious to see how long it will take to put it all together. I’m really impressed with the pattern so far, and I’m hoping this will be smooth sailing going forward since I took the time to cut all the pieces out ahead of time (lesson learned from my last quilting project). Finished this beauty! I can post her because she is with her person now. The fabric was a layer cake. The line is Moon child by Fran Gulick of Cotton and Joy. The background is the Kona color of the year Julep. The pattern called squared up by Cotton and Joy. The idea (essentially the same quilt) came from Misty of Missouri star as she did this same quilt on their You Tube channel. I love this little spot in my studio! I still have not named this machine but leaning toward naming her Cinderella. When I see her light blue color she reminds me of Cinderella’s dress at the ball. Finished this fun patriotic quilt top today. I shopped my stash and found a fun one-yard bundle of “Red, White & Bang” by @gervaissandy for @rileyblakedesigns and added the cute ice cream piece “Star Spangled Summer” by @atachiera for @henry_glass_fabrics I love the secondary chain pattern that is created when the blocks come together. The pattern is “Spinning Squares” by @natalieddoan for @missouriquiltco The blocks are a nice big 16.5” each. Decisions, decisions! After many ideas for how to quilt the Crescent City runner, I decided on a straight line design that echoed the diagonals in the piecing. I marked the lines I wanted to quilt with a hera marker, my favorite method for doing this. The hardest part of deciding how to quilt this was whether or not to quilt in the larger embroidered cyanotype areas. I chose not to and stitched around those blocks in the ditch. I used Aurifil thread and stitched on my trusty BERNINA 350PE with a walking foot. How would you quilt the Crescent City Runner? I anticipated that a stop @missouriquiltco would be fun-filled but I had no idea just how much there was to see! There were tour busses of quilters there! A store for each type of fabric. Solid colors and bolts of fabric literally as far as the eye could see! They even have a yarn store! I think I bought one of everything and simultaneously got nothing and maybe I need to stop again on my way back home?! Such fun! I’m pinching myself because it doesn’t feel real - a dream project, a delight to work with the editorial team, a fun way to capture memories of our road trip from Oregon to California. Fun fact - I couldn’t resist naming this after our first stop - Crescent City which is also the title of one of my favorite Lucinda Williams songs ❤️ I am happy to share that while the process was slow I made this one from start to finish. My shoulder is so much better and the pain is only intermittent now. The Crescent City runner uses pretreated @jacquardproducts Cyanotype sheets, solid fabrics - I used @kimberbelldesigns solids from @maywoodstudio and presciencia embroidery thread.
