24.2.23 Modern Maasai on KingLion The village motorbike repair shop flat tyre story, continued… (see my previous post). We were all happily hanging out chatting (as much as you can when you don’t speak each other’s language).. There were 2 men on a motorbike I’d just taken a photo of, as they took off smiling and waving, to reveal this modern Maasai, on a King Lion. 24.2.23 Hanging out in a modern Maasai village motorbike repair shop for half an hour. I’d got out of the car with bare feet, which caused some surprise and had many offers to give me their sandals made from tyres. I did finally put a pair on for a few minutes to prove that they were actually 2x the size of my feet. We were travelling with 2 flat spare tyres after the roads through Ngorongoro, and when we started to lose air in one on the vehicle on the way home Phillip pulled off the highway into a village and found a motorbike repair shop. They didn’t have a tool for getting a big LandCruiser tyre off the rim and were ended up just patching the tyre on the rim. The Maasai people have an incredibly strong identity and jewelry, especially necklaces, play a crucial role in creating and preserving the identity of the tribe. Maasai jewellery is not just designed to make a visual impact. It also serves a cultural purpose. ‘ADUMU’ , it is an impressive dance, not only for it's energy but also for it is deceptively simple appearance. The #maasai do it, they make it look easy. When it's your turn, you realize it's much harder than it looks. The ‘Adumu’ dance appears rudimentary in it's movement, but carries more profound meaning and reason.
