Sunday pond ponder Maybe you, like me, have wondered why we have so much information about climate change - and still don’t act on it. Apparently, much of the answer hides in our brain. It is difficult for our brain to deal with things very far in the future. We have a tendency to overestimate the severity of an immediate threat as well as the benefit that can be gained now. We also underestimate threats or gains that take place in the future. The best way to help your brain deal with the situation? Using our imagination and story-telling about the future we want, and creating better routines that will get us there. I’ve here paraphrased one chapter of the wonderfully inspiring and informative book by @climamira - and decided to make this a Sunday series for some weeks. In tough times, especially overwhelmed by trauma or grief, I focus on what I can handle. This little 60 min timelap started with a dramatic cloudy evening, a sudden glimpse of rainbow in popping through the moving clouds mixed in fog, followed by dusk leading into lightning thunderstorms ⛈ And then, everything gets back to normal.. partial clear night skies as if nothing happened, with sydney lights shimmering in the distant horizon rising like the #atlantis, frogs croaking loudly in the background disrupting the dreamy illusion, bringing me back into reality. #life #philosophy The weather, the mood, the landscape changes constantly here in the mounatins! It’s never the same. One minute it’s sunny, the next minute it’s stormy! The fleeting changes outside contrast with the stillness within, leaving one feeling ageless, suspended in an eternal present. Conversely, #sydney or any urban city life, with its relentless pace and repetitive routines, appears to propel time forward at an alarming rate. Despite the static exterior, there's an internal acceleration, a feeling of rapid aging amidst the city's frenetic energy.
