Located at Kooringal, on the southern end of Moreton Island is The Gutter Bar. This bar is just a stones throw from the shore, can be accessed by 4x4 or boat and is a great place to crack a cold one. The gutter bar is decked out to create a rustic nautical and beachy vibe. We’ve visited here a few times now, the food is always prepared quickly and to a high quality. Our go to is their fish burgers, it’s packed with fresh and high quality ingredients, it has a decent sized piece of quality fish and is served with well seasoned hot chips which all goes lovely with a cold pale ale or two. If you’re visiting the island we highly recommend stopping in here!! Lunch and a beer at the world famous The Gutter Bar! A relaxed and quirky bar with a great atmosphere and beach shack vibes, located in Kooringal, on the southern tip of Moreton Island. After seeing oyster farms right there on the island, we couldn’t go past the seafood platter consisting of fresh fish, prawns and oysters! That’s a wrap at Moreton Island. We have already posted a bit on this special place, but decided to give you our top tips ! Surf side = Western side Calm side = Eastern side We took our 4 wheel drive so we could explore the whole island. And we were lucky enough to go with another family who was very familiar with the island, so we experienced it the local way 😎 1. Sunsets on both Eastern and Western sides are a must ! They are completely different on each side of island and unreal every night. 2. You must do the adventure and hard yards at The Desert Sand Dunes for awesome sand boarding ! Do it yourself, no tour needed. Epic scenery, super fun, very sandy and a sweaty experience 🤙 3. Take fire wood. We had beach fires 🔥 every night! Nothing beats a good beach fire ! One night we even made a roast pork 🙌 4. Have a sneaky burger at castaways cafe/ convenience store - they are to die for ! 5. Keep your eyes 👀 peeled for the bird life. It’s Amazing ! We watched Eagles 🦅 and Osprey looking for prey on the beach every day 6. Look out for Pippies (small muscles) as you are driving on the Eastern beach - a great, fun find digging them up. And a beautiful cook up with garlic 🧄 and soy. 7. Check out the light house. Do the walk to the top and hopefully you will see some whales 🐋 down below. 8. Spend the day at champagne pools and take a picnic. Rock pools, crystal clear ocean, fishing, dolphins and hanging out by the beach 🏝️ .. what more could you want ? 9. Take a visit to the famous Gutter Bar ….If you can find it 🤫. Great atmosphere, local secret, fantastic seafood 🍤 10. Explore the washed up shipwrecks on the Western beaches. Or if warm enough, dive/snorkel the sunken wrecks near Tangalooma resort 11. Fish ! We went to fish and the beach fishing 🎣 was so much fun and didn’t disappoint! Go clothing prepared if winter ❄️ so you don’t miss the fish 🎣 when they are biting ! For us, an experience is about the people you go with … so thats our last tip. We always love a good lighthouse visit ! The Moreton Island experience had a spectacular light house with whales performing 🐋 in front of our nose and a very cranky Keeley… who did not want it to be in a family pic 😂. She just makes the picture even more memorable 🥰 Later we visited the champagne pools and watched the dolphins 🐬 rounding up the schools of fish. Fantastic to watch nature at its best.
