Decided to brighten the senses with a trip to @illuminateadelaide - it felt like a small continuation of @dark_mofo festival which warmed my Blackened cold heart, or something. I was fortunate enough to experience the 3rd show of @klassikunderground featuring the sensational string skills of @tahliapetrosian and her fellow magical musicians as well as an experimental short film and visual art extravaganza by @margie.medlin ! It was practically a full immersion and at times unnerving where the sounds constructed by #Bach were delivered alongside the immaculate "Different trains for String Quartet and Tape" project by #stevereich - a rather haunting time travel of sorts to the USA and parts Europe around World War II. I then ventured to #electricplaygground at #basecamp and travelled through #orbit by @mappeddesign @harsh__realities_ and local award winning musician and producer extraordinaire @motez - it felt out of this world, extra terrestrial and cosmic. I worked my way to #seep "the house of the Vnholy" @houseofvnholy which remarkably caused myself to lose the pull of gravity as I seemd to float and sink with the lights that blasted and dimmed disorientating those within. An atmospheric Gothic laser show that felt like it had transported myself to another dimension, I wish I was listening to @sunnofficial during the expose - nice work @horriblehaus ! Warning: the lights and flashes may cause distress and discomfort. 🎵 This Saturday @motez will be on Stage 2 debuting a world-premiere performance featuring live musicians, string quartet, and elements of Arabic music showcasing his heritage. Like many other artists on the lineup, Motez has been attending WOMADelaide for years and has seen so many incredible artists. “One of my most vivid memories was seeing Dino Moran closing WOMADelaide 2009 with one of the most memorable DJ sets I've ever seen,” Motez remembers. “I saw everybody from kids to older people dancing to some incredibly tasteful afrobeat and afrohouse music, it totally changed the way I play music. Another memory is sitting under the umbrella in the rain watching a mesmerising set from DakhaBrakha, it was magical.” Motez’s first WOMADelaide was in 2007, after moving to Australia from Iraq. “My friend Sarah took me with her to WOMADelaide as she wanted me to truly experience the welcoming, jovial and warm atmosphere the festival has to offer and she was not wrong at all.” “It was quite the life-changing experience not only for me as a young and fresh immigrant but also as a budding artist.
