Rare sight: An empty Golconda fort. From today morning's history walk. The #golcondafort in Hyderabad is undoubtedly a site to watch. It would have been even more splendid had it not been destroyed by the Mughals in 1687. What most people who visit it don't know is that the ticketed area (in pictures) is in fact only the palace area called Bala Hissar (high point in Persian), which is where the old palaces and durbar hall of the Qutb Shahi kingdom lies. The second picture is from the Zenana area's bath area. And the 1st and 3rd photos are from the inner courtyard. History of Golconda Fort The Golconda Fort’s origins are traced back to the 14th century when the Rajah of Warangal Deo Rai (under the Kakatiya Kingdom which ruled from Warangal) built a mud fort. It was taken over by the Bahmani Empire between 1358 and 1375. Later, it was developed into a full-fledged citadel by Sultan Quli (last pic) who founded the Qutb Shahi kingdom in 1518 following the death of the last sovereign of Bahmani Emperor Mahmud Shah. Sultan Quli was a commander and later governor of Telangana, under the Bahmani Empire (1347-1518), when its second capital was at Bidar. Sultan Quli was originally from Hamadan in Iran and came to India in the late 15th century. He began developing a walled city. It eventually came to be called Golconda Fort (derived from Telugu Golla-conda, or shepherds hill). The fort has 87 bastions, and eight gates, of which a few are not accessible to the general public as they are under the army’s control. It is believed to be one of the Deccan’s most impregnable forts and had kept Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s army at bay for eight months until he succeeded and conquered Hyderabad in 1687. Hyderabad was founded in the year 1591 by Mohd. The Badshahi Masjid ✨ The Badshahi Mosque was built between 1671 and 1673 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque is an important example of Mughal architecture, with an exterior that is decorated with carved red sandstone with marble inlay. Resolute. Despite being abandoned for almost 450 years, the former Mughal capital of Fatehpur Sikri is rightly considered one of India’s archaeological and architectural wonders. He combines the side-on profile and detail seen in the work of Mughal painters in his depiction of the Nawab of Bengal with western style composition for the other figures. *Keep swiping for a colorful experience.* "New Delhi is dirty... it's too much smog... there are too many people..." and the list of rumors goes on. We can say the same about many big cities in the U.S. but we still go, right? All I saw was beautiful colors reflective of their culture, (a lot of) people keeping to themselves to get on with their day, rubble from centuries-old buildings (here and there), and a lot of very nice people.
