Pink Carpet: As the cherry blossoms fall around our area, I decided to share this pic of the lovely pink carpeting on the sidewalks in our town. In ways it can seem like a mess, but it brightens MY heart to see the soft colors spread around. I'm not sure I would ever pair pink and green in a decorator's pallet, but I have found that nature often perfectly puts colors together that we fail at doing when we try to imitate it. Garden Views: 25 some years ago I was at a convention at the Opryland Convention Center and so got a taste of the gardens that sprawl throughout the resort. I finally made it back this year with my wife to enjoy them once again. Near the convention section is this one (of many) fountains so of course we started taking pictures. The gardens really are a destination unto themselves, especially if you're more into nature than the Opry House next door. I wasn't carrying my tripod for this part of the trip so I found a spot I could set my camera to get the long exposure water streams. I've also learned that 1/2 second is sufficient for the effect. Der Ausritt auf Mutters Rücken, endete für diesen jungen Haubentaucher abrupt. Sie stellte sich auf und schüttelte ihr Junges aus ihrem Gefieder. Das Junge bekam somit seine erste Lektion im Schwimmen. Es war das erste Mal, dass ich das aus der Nähe miterleben konnte. Es war faszinierend zu beobachten, dass das Junge nach ein paar Schwimmübungen sofort zu tauchen begann. Danach versuchte es wieder auf den Rücken der Mutter zu klettern, doch diese verweigerte ihm den Aufstieg, also schwamm es zum Vater-Haubentaucher, wo es nach ein paar Kletterversuchen in seinem wohligen Gefieder versschwand. Es zeigt, dass wohl auch bei den Haubentauchern soziale Beziehungen und Fürsorge existieren. MY PASSION: TO TRY DIFFERENT TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY. Hot Takes: How do you keep from melting a rocket engine with all that fire blasting out? In fact, the heat of a rocket engine is so much it will melt any of the metals we know how to make. But with some ingenuity, they figured out a trick a long time ago that I think is interesting. I got to visit the US Space and Rocket Center not long ago and this time shared the experience with my wife. Thanks honey for wanting to go there so that I got to visit it again! It's kind of nice visiting a place more than once and be able to get some of the pictures that didn't come out so well the first time. Though I'll admit, when I get to the place, I need to be better prepared as my mind went mostly blank except for a couple of them as to what I found I was missed while editing previous pics. Oh well, it's fun to see a place again regardless. So how did they make the engine work? It's a well known method, but I still like it. They sent some of "cold" fuel down the outside of the engine bell which soaked up enough of the heat to keep it below the metal's melting point. In the 2nd pic you see the lines going down the bell. It's actually made of "pipes" that open at the bottom which is what you see close up on end in the first pic. I love great engineering and the patterns they make. Sunshine Bridge: Part of sharing my pics is sharing the story behind it. This story starts 2 years ago when I made a solo whirlwind journey around the southern USA. That included Louisiana where I came upon this bridge. But I was in a rush (as usual), it had been a long day of driving, and I was tired, so surprise - I did NOT take a picture. But I regretted that. Especially when some time since then I saw a similar pic to this from someone I follow and I was like, "I know that place! I should have taken that picture!" So forward to this year when this time my wife and I were driving from Texas up to Nashville. We decided to go a bit east first, partly to let me share a few places with her from my 2022 trip. So when we came near this place, I hemmed and hawed about making this detour, but decided I didn't want to regret missing the picture again. Life is full of too many regrets as it is, so now I try to minimize them. As we crossed the bridge from the other side to get this shot, little did we realize there was now construction which led to a traffic jam. So my quick little detour turned into a 1/2 -1 hour ordeal. Was it worth it? Well, I got my pic so no regrets this time. I went b&w because it was quite overcast and frankly, this just makes a much better picture. I've now learned it's the Sunshine Bridge, was called a bridge to nowhere, and was once the only bridge across the Mississippi river between Louisiana and Baton Rouge. Politics, controversy, and big money surround it. All the same, I just like how it stands high above the flat countryside. Apr '24 .
