Join Louise for a Hands-On Herbs Workshop! This is a practical workshop to learn the basic principles of how to use dried medicinal herbs to create your own apothecary for your family's health. In this workshop, Louise will show you how to make infusions, tinctures, oils, salves, steams, and a poultice using dried herbs grown at Aurora Farm. We will make a batch of our favourite Healing Salve and you will take a sample of that home as well. We will also enjoy taste-testing some herbal tea infusions with some herbal shortbread and energy balls. The first workshop is this Friday, April 26 from 6-8 pm. Our annual Three Day Goat School is only 3 weeks away! Are you thinking about getting dairy goats for your family’s milk supply? In this workshop, you will learn everything you need to care for your own dairy goats and make fabulous goat milk-based foods. At Aurora Farm on May 3, 4, & 5, 2024, we will go over planning for shelter and fencing with your existing spaces in mind. We’ll spend time in the kitchen making cheeses, yogurt, cream, butter, and ice cream. We will practice hand-milking our Aurora Farm goats and practice trimming hooves, administering needles, giving a drench, taking a temperature, and wrapping a wound. This workshop is held during our birthing season so we will cover that, too! By the end of session you will be ready for goats! Early April in Winnipeg is the ugliest time of the year! It’s drab, colourless and dirty. 😑 Not at all inspiring for a photographer. BUT - I think we have a lot to learn in a time like this. So I set out to take the most beautiful / intriguing photos that I could while out for a walk. With just my iPhone I challenged myself to make the most out of the worst. The result: Photo 1 - melting snow revealing the dirt and grime from the fall Photo 2 - water sitting on a dirty sidewalk Photo 3 - the sand and dirt being washed down a sloped street Photo 4 - close up of photo 1 Photo 5 - close up of photo 2 Photo 6 - close up of photo 3 This is good exercise for the creative brain! Cheese & Crackers Workshop is back! Learn how to make chèvre, ricotta and feta cheeses and design your own crackers to serve with them. These are the easy and essential first cheeses that anyone can make at home. Home-made crackers are delicious, nutritious, easy to make and so much more economical than store-bought.
