My first concert of 2024...and it's...April?? Who am I anymore?? I used to go to shows all the time until I got old...but what a way to kick off the concert going season than with @nicovega ... A band that blew the doors off the Moroccan room in DTLA, their energy alone can power the entire city LA for at least a couple of days. Nico Vega, 3.25.24, Mercury Lounge: It had been a decade since I last saw @NicoVega (largely due to their hiatus), but their fire burns brighter than ever ❤️🔥 Seeing them last night brought back the excitement I had when I first saw them 14 years ago as a local band opening for Metric at the Hollywood Palladium — I was in high school at the time and it was the first concert I went to by myself (I lied to my parents about that at the time but no regrets lol) and I was nervous about going solo. But as soon as Nico Vega took the stage, I was mesmerized by @ajavolkman’s commanding stage presence and the raw power of her voice that grabs you by the collar at first but then comforts you with its warm tone. This is a band that always conquered the stage as a beast (IYKYK) even if they weren’t the headliner. I was hooked, catching as many shows of theirs as I could in the waning days of my high school years in LA and my college days in Chicago. The camaraderie between the band members is so strong that Aja teared up as she talked about how the band saved her life, which tells me that this is just the beginning for this band that has yet to get the credit they deserve. My first time seeing @nicovega and it most certainly won't be the last. 🤘🏽🔥 What a PHENOMENAL sold out reunion show they put on this week the @lodgeroom, and what a dedicated room of diehard fans they did summon. I am very grateful that my girl @iamkatleon (of @holywarsmusic ) was able to join me after being given a pair of tix by a former music buddy in SF who couldn't make the trip down (thank you so much, Rachel 🙏🏽❤️🔥). I was inspired by so many of their songs, especially some of the newer ones they said they were just test driving out for the first time (that horn section was fire).
