Elvis se sentía muy deprimido luego de su separación. Con un profundo y visible bajón emocional, pensó que las técnicas de dianética y de la cienciología lo ayudarían a superar esa triste situación. Acompañado por algunos miembros de la conocida como mafia de Menfis (un grupo de personas que siempre estaban con él), Presley se presentó en las instalaciones de la secta. Pero al poco tiempo salió del lugar visiblemente molesto, insultando y mencionando que no había forma alguna en la que él pudiera formar parte de la cienciología, ya que resultaba evidente que sólo querían su dinero. La curiosa anécdota fue registrada por la periodista Janet Reitman en su libro “Inside Scientology” y corroborada por Lamar Fike, miembro de la mafia de Menfis quien estuvo en esa compleja visita. 1960s vintage men’s shirt with an amazing print of various Elvis Presley records. There are so many song titles and I don’t see any that are repeated. The fabric feels like cotton or a cotton blend. It feels like it’s never been worn or washed as the fabric is still nice and crisp. This was probably home made but I think it was made back in the 60s and it was done very well. There is a cut out size label that says it’s a size small. There are some rust stains inside the neck but these don’t show when worn. 📍The Original Tolbert’s Dairy Treet, Victoria, TX Tolbert’s Dairy Treet was built and opened in 1955 by Jesse and Chiquita Tolbert, two folks who passed through a few times and fell in love with the area. Having never owned a restaurant, Mrs. Tolbert used her at-home burger recipe, and it was a great success. All the original recipes from the 50s are still used here. The Tolbert’s sold their business to a long-time employee in the late 80s, then he sold it to the Lauger family in 2018, who soon expanded to a second location in town. /// ELVIS: Late one night in either early July 1955, or mid-April 1956, on their way to Corpus Christi, reportedly, a big yellow Cadillac pulled up near the side window (now the order pick-up window), where 2 men got out of the car and walked up to the window to order. One said, “What do you want, Presley?” Mrs. Tolbert looked up to see the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley sitting in the back of the car. They had stopped at a gas station on the way through town and asked the attendant where to get a good hamburger fast, and he sent them to Tolbert’s. /// Extra Tidbits: 1) In the early 80s, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”, starring Burt Reynolds, @dollyparton , and Dom Delouise, was being filmed up the road in La Grange. One day, Burt and Dom were passing through Victoria and stopped by. Dom came up to order, the girl at the window recognized him and asked about Burt. Dom said he was in the car but didn’t want to get out, understandably, although Reynolds did wave and blow kisses at the girls. 2) The painter, Dalhart Windberg, painted the wooden strips that were used to show the flavors of Ice cream for the day. Elvis Presley's TCB Band über so viele Jahre hinweg getroffen und mit Ihnen unzählige Male längere Gespräche geführt. Vergangenen Sonntag durften wir noch einmal den unglaublich tollen Jerry Scheff treffen, was ein Gänsehaut Moment war. Das letzte Mal das wir uns auf ein Gespräch getroffen haben, war 2006 in Soest und trotz all dieser Jahre, sind diese Treffen noch magisch. Jerry hat das Album L.A. Woman mit dem Doors eingespielt und spielt auf dem legendären Raiders on the Storm den E-Bass. Er war Mitglied von Bob Dylan's Band, hat mit Elvis Costello und Roy Orbison jeweils ein legendäres Album eingespielt und auch auf dem schönsten Gram Parsons Album zupft Er den Bass. When the wedding scene in “Viva Las Vegas” (1964) was filmed, many tabloid magazines at the time published photos of the “wedding” and suggested that Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret really had gotten married. Little Church of the West, the oldest wedding chapel in Las Vegas, is the location used in the closing scene. Among the bevy of beauties with whom Elvis co-starred, it is generally conceded that Ann-Margaret came closest to equaling his charisma on screen. Some theaters chose to bill Ann-Margret above Elvis due to her popularity at the time. The chemistry between the two stars was genuine during filming. Presley and Ann-Margret began an affair, and this received considerable attention from film and music gossip columnists. This reportedly led to a showdown with Presley’s worried girlfriend Priscilla Beaulieu. (Elvis and Priscilla married in 1967.) In her 1985 book “Elvis and Me”, Priscilla Presley describes the difficulties that she experienced when the gossip columnists erroneously “announced” that Ann-Margret and Presley had become engaged to be married. In her memoirs, Ann-Margret refers to Elvis Presley as her “soulmate” and stated: “We felt there was a need in ‘The Industry’ for a female Elvis Presley.” The filming of “Viva Las Vegas” reportedly produced unusually heated exchanges between the director, film veteran George Sidney, and Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, who was not credited as a technical advisor in the film’s credits.The arguments reportedly concerned the amount of time and effort allotted by the cinematographer, Joseph Biroc, to the song and dance numbers that featured Ann-Margret, ostensibly on the orders of the director.
