Thankful for another Spring Showcase under my belt. Last night felt like the first time I’ve genuinely smiled in months and for that, I am eternally grateful. Music heals. 🙏🏼🎶💎💫 • • This semester has offered its fair share of challenges, but beyond that, I’ve just honestly been pressed up against some of the darkest depression I’ve had in a long time. It’s been over ten years since I was hospitalized for depression/ suicidal ideations and I thought that chapter was gone forever, but it crept up on me steadily over the last few months and it’s been terrifying at times. For whatever reason this time, I’ve been more vocal about how I’m feeling. I continue to have open and honest conversations when friends ask me how I’m feeling. Just the ability to express my feelings has loosened the grip of depression even if just for fleeting moments. • • I used to completely isolate myself during my depression, shutting off everyone and everything that could possibly help, but I’m aware that wasn’t an effective strategy and I honestly don’t have the luxury of doing that anymore being my dad’s caregiver. Isolation only allows the darkness to fester. • • I just wanted to say thank you to anyone who’s been kind to me over the last few months when it’s been a challenge for me to be kind to myself. It’s meant more than you know. And if I haven’t seemed like myself lately, maybe now you’ll understand what’s been going on with me. I don’t feel like I owe anyone an explanation, but I do think that sharing my experience can help me…and maybe you, too. I’m still working through these things, but I realize I’ve often waited until I feel better to share and maybe it can help to share while I’m still “in it.” 🙏🏼💫 • • I meant for this post to be about my showcase, but I guess it has a bigger purpose. Music has that way. Thank God for music. Thank God for the first real smiles in months. Los fines de semana eran NUESTRO MOMENTO, nos marcábamos excursiones de 3h! 😶🌫️¡Quién me ha visto y quién me ve! jajaja Ahora por mis problemas de salud no puedo trabajar, tuve que renunciar a natación y las excursiones por el bosque desaparecieron... Siempre digo que me tengo que adaptar a ‘’mi nueva situación’’ pero a nadie le gusta estar limitado. 🫠Pero bueno… estoy teniendo unos días con la moral bastante baja y necesitaba irme al bosque, así que nos hemos ido!
