Day 63 of 366: During my pre-session consultation with headshot clients while discussing ‘what to wear’ ideas, I like to suggest bringing along a casual outfit…..something that they feel 100% themselves wearing….just incase we have a few minutes at the end of the session. This past weekend I got to see a former coworker again and meet her husband. I had the opportunity to get to learn about their love story, and we had a chance to vent about daycare costs, among other things. It is always nice to talk to a fellow teacher and mother. Juggling parenthood and your career is always challenging, and oftentimes we can get lost in it all and find ourselves not making the time or having the energy to invest in our relationship with our significant other. 💫Luckily, these two love birds were able to secure a babysitter so they could enjoy a nice couple session, followed by a well-deserved date night. Trombonist Andy is also a huge movie fan and wanted something cinematically striking to add to his portfolio. My specialty! I lit him with two strobes with gridded strip box modifiers on each side. For the background, I skimmed a strobe with a blue gel across two V-flats. I added the smoke using some Ben Shirk smoke and fog brushes in post. 🌺The best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun🌺 - Shania Twain Believe it or not, this client is not a professional model, nor does she have much experience with taking professional photos (but isn’t she gorgeous😍). Some people are just photogenic and natural in front of the camera. However, there are some components taking place behind the scenes to achieve these photos. 1) Trust, 2) Guidance, 3) Confidence. Trust is key between the photographer and the client, when there is open communication and trust it makes the process for providing guidance and obtaining client confidence much easier. Guidance is important because it helps guide the client and provides constructive feedback. People need reassurance and praise! Being in front of a camera can be awkward and nerve-racking when you are not sure if how you are posing looks good in camera. Confidence is achieved when the client feels like they are posing correctly and that they are killing their sessions 🔥. Once the client hears that their pictures look amazing, they start to relax and warm up…and then that internal model comes out, and their self-confidence shines through🌞.
