The full Marklin Northlander TEE set. One thing that I have noticed is Marklin made these cars shorter than their actual prototypes missing an entire window on each unit, I don't really mind but once you discover that you never unsee it 🙄. Heading North for the long weekend? A handful of days of the week the Ontario Northland "Northlander" navigates across the Carpet Subdivision on it's trip between Toronto and North Bay. For this service the provincal government ordered refurbished Trans European Express trainsets from the other side of the globe and brought them over the Atlantic to Ontario. The original Werkspool locomotives of these trains originally pulled the consists however didn't end up fairing too well in the harsh winter climates and were eventually swapped out for EMD F7A's. The "Northlander" service became discontinued by the Liberal McGinty government in 2012 while many in remote regions still relied on this train as a basic essential service. In more recent years the current Conservative government has announced the Northlander will return in 2026 and brand new trainsets from Siemens have been ordered to provide the rolling stock! This model set was made by Marklin in the mid ' 90s as a special limited collectors run. I unfortunately cannot run it as the train requires the special AC power set up of the Marklin track and control systems. Arp 273 - A Cosmic Rose 💐 Galaxy in Andromeda An image from last year. It has a total exposure Time of over 20 hours.😮 I have done twice attempts of image processing, but with this version I am more pleased, so I like to show it to you. I hope you like it. 😊 Arp 273 is a pair of interacting galaxies, 300 million light years away in the constellation Andromeda. It was first described in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies, compiled by Halton Arp in 1966. The larger of the spiral galaxies, known as UGC 1810, is about five times more massive than the smaller galaxy. It has a disc that is tidally distorted into a rose-like shape by the gravitational pull of the companion galaxy below it, known as UGC 1813. NGC 3344 is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star-forming regions in the constellation of Leo Minor in the northern starry sky. It is estimated to be 24 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 45,000 Lj.. Because of the weather this image was a very hard one. It took me 5 nights to get these 5,8h of exposure time. Crazy! But also in Spain are so many clouds this winter. IC 1795 - the Fish Head Nebula. Just over 30 hours of combined narrowband data for this project. As with most emission nebulae the Ha signal was very strong so I only needed about 6 hours of that, and spent the majority of my time on Sii and Oiii instead. People (myself included) often spend far too much time of Ha but Sii in particular shows so much interesting structure and really is worth putting the time in to capture. I originally wanted to double the time that I have on this project but the changing of the seasons has led to poor weather and little opportunity to shoot. This ist the first image with my telescope after cleaning and recollimation. 😊 NGC 225 is open star cluster in the constellation Cassiopeia in the northern starry sky. It has an apparent magnitude of +7.0 mag and a diameter of 15′. The open star cluster was discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783. It is also called the sailboat cluster because of the arrangement of the stars. vdB 4 is the illuminated part of an extended complex of dark nebulae , known as LDN 1297. 📆 09.-11. I was worried that being in a fairly light polluted location I would really struggle but luckily it sits in a relatively dark part of my sky and so hasn’t turned out too bad. This is an LRGB image with about 13.5 hours of luminance data, and 18 hours of RGB. It could really do with some Ha data to bring out some of the emission nebulae that are faintly visible in the outer arms. My ONTC has so far been an absolute beast.
