Did you know that the direction in which you lay your wood flooring can impact how your room feels? For example, if you lay flooring horizontally across your room you can make it feel wider but shorter. Lay it vertically, end to end, and you'll make it feel longer but narrower. One way to avoid either of these things happening is to lay your floor at 45 degree angles, which will make your room feel both wider and longer - win-win! @keelrowbooks I can't take full credit for this - I see this as a guidance project rather than a full design and delivery. Anthony and Alice, the proprietors of Keel Row Bookshop, are friends, and I was asked to help with their acquisition of the former Boots store on Park View. Planning permission for the new store front was designed and secured, as well as support on matters of interior layout and colour scheme. I've been doing a lot of local interior design work lately, which I can certainly say has been good for the soul! It's so wonderful seeing these spaces come to life when people starting using them. These photos are from the open day of the Whitley Bay Hub, formerly the Whitley Bay Big Local and it was such a joyous occasion. Through the hard work of volunteers in the community, and the staff, the space is going from strength to strength. Organisation and storage is always really high on my clients' priority list when they work with me. Because we all have belongings and hobbies that we can't do without, but we don't necessarily want all the things on display in our homes. Jenny and Andrew have a small family and needed to create a kitchen/diner that reflected them as a family, while still creating spaces for everything they do in their home. The kitchen design needed to incorporate the actual kitchen, a snug, a dining area, somewhere to be social with friends, a kids' den, a cloakroom and an area to sit and put shoes on - a huge ask for a relatively small area! But we managed it with teamwork and really clever design. Their design is all finished and they love living in their dream kitchen with all the elements they needed cleverly packed into one room. From a kitchen cupboard that doubles as a cloakroom to the gorgeous reading nook for the kids to read in - it's all there!
