I had an absolute blast at The Mitty with @hsrrace last weekend! The event was amazing, the Panoz ran well, and while my driving started as hot garbage, it improved to tepid garbage…which was enough for a class win in the final sprint race, and to get the car home in one piece. I met tons of spectators and Panoz fans in the paddock, and it was great to see @bptst21 again, to finally meet Mary from @gopanoz , @john.a.leverett , @some_car_nerd , @timhillphotographyslt , and to sit down with THE Doc Bundy to hear some of his ‘80s IMSA GTP stories. I wanted to create the Panoz "LEADER" LMP-1 Roadster S, entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2002 to be able to film the race for the film about Michel Vaillant. Together with the other protagonist of the film, The Lola B98/10 were entered by the @damsracing Team but they were practically out of the race, their purpose was precisely the filming of the film. Naturally they were professional drivers racing. The base on which I worked is from the 2001 Hot WHeels Series FIRST EDITION .After removing the original decals I began the work of creation, painting the frame black in the areas that were missing and so on until installing the side fins on the front headlights. I based myself on the photos of the 1/43 model of the Ixo and those of the actual car at Le Mans. Some work such as the new decals to be applied and the fins on the headlights really took me a long time. Was going thru some old race pics this weekend… 1st: Terry Loebel in a #Swift #DB2 #Sports2000 around 1989. These were nice cars to work on. Terry was a nice guy, fast and generous with his guys, RIP. 2nd and 3rd: 1994 #Ralt #RT41 #FormulaAtlantic with #DavidEmpringham . Won the championship that year with #RaltAmerica . Dave was a great guy, big fun working with him. We developed this car from the #RT40 with #RonTauranac , drivers @stuartmcrow and #charlesnearburg , that was a learning experience! Did a winter season in New Zealand with those guys, great memories! 4th: 1995 #NewmanHaasRacing , my 1st year in #Indycar with #MichaelAndretti and #PaulTracy . Big learning curve at the beginning but lots of good years there. 5th: last year with #NHR in 2007, 4th straight championship with #SebastienBourdais in the one year only #Panoz , in hindsight a pretty nice car. Got to work with many drivers there: #ChristianFittipaldi , Pupo #RobertoMoreno , #CristianoDaMatta , #BrunoJunquiera and more. Glory days.
