This is probably one of the most absurdly titled paintings I have. Let me explain… This piece is called 32-25-34, and those are my body measurements according to fashion sizing. This painting belongs to the Mirror Collection - An exploration of how the reflection we see of ourselves in a mirror is an inverted image of what others see - a mirror, the tool we use to view ourselves, is NOT even an accurate depiction of what we look like to others.🙃🤦🏻♀️ This makes the mirror an unreliable source of physical reflection… but, ironically, we use it daily to ensure “we look our best” or “look like ourselves” before facing other people. 🤔 It’s so easy to be distracted by how we “present” to others that we can lose sight of who WE REALLY ARE. We’re so much more than our body size, our hair cuts, our outfits… I wanted to call out what it feels like to be judged & perceived by my appearance first, and by who I am or how I behave second, by naming this painting the MOST ABSURD title. Imagine introducing yourself to someone with your body measurements? Like, who cares?! And yet, that’s exactly what it feels others might value most, or notice first, which is why we put so much pressure on ourselves to “look good”. People will remember how you make them FEEL…in the grand scheme of things, your body, your clothing, your appearance is just another part of who you are, it’s not what defines you. Those things are merely the extra numbers and details about you that no one will remember or care about. Glad we sorted this out. 🎤 I rest my case on the 32-25-34 title. #30minutethursdayart This week I started my *THIRD* 30 Minute Thursday Journal! I debated about trying a different journal size and type, but I just came back to the same one. The square format and size just feel perfect for this exercise. I've missed this practice. I've been a little quiet here, working on some things behind the scenes and in my yard. Spring is always really busy for me with gardening work! Winter clean-up, mulching beds, planting and replacing, adding new flower beds... these are just a few of the things I've been up to. (Not to mention my big stencil release last month!) But, I'm glad I have my 30 minute journal to return to on rainy days or when I'm tired from yard work!
