The construction of cycle tracks between Chandani Chowk and HEMRL, flanking both sides of NDA Pashan Road, seemed like a step in the right direction. Ironically, envisaged as a solution to promote eco-friendly transportation, these tracks have turned into a headache for Bavdhan residents. The reason: The incomplete construction of cycle tracks has turned them into hotspots for dumping garbage and unauthorized parking on these tracks. Moreover, illegal parking has been posing safety risks, forcing pedestrians onto the roads. Residents’ plight Speaking to Pune Times Mirror, Anand Thakoor, a resident of Bavdhan, said “Everything is half done. When constructing a cycle track, proper demarcation is essential. However, the PMC has left these projects halfway, resulting in various issues such as garbage dumping and vehicle parking on the unfinished tracks. PUNE: 25 garbage bins placed on the footpaths on Jangli Maharaj Road between Shivajinagar and the Deccan bus stop and others in the vicinity have been stolen. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Smart City are now blaming each other. None of them is taking responsibility for the stolen bins installed on the road. These 25 rotating stainless steel garbage cans were stolen, and the damaged stainless steel frames that are now exposed to pedestrians and commuters pose a risk. The theft of these bins makes it harder for sanitation staff to do their jobs. As installed amenities for citizens are stolen in the city, action is almost never taken against the culprits. Pedestrians added that the condition of the footpaths in the city is very uneven. In some areas, their condition is very poor, whereas in others it is not. Maintenance of the footpath is also a task that civic authorities should get started on right now. After hearing from a friend about the stolen bins on the Jungli Maharaj road, it became clear that it was the ignorance of the authorities. NO TRAIN. Just two guys walking across from the tracks in fierce winds and blowing snow. Even before I headed down to Wasilla Lake, I figured the odds were high the evening return of the southbound Alaska Railroad Aurora Winter Train would be on weather delay. According to the weather service, our powerful winds were gusting to 75 mph. Our power had gone out a few times and was about to go out again for two hours and 50 minutes. I figured it must be even worse farther north up the valley, where snows pile up much deeper than here, winds blow even harder and the temperature drops colder. Still, I hoped it would come. I do have a number of pictures of the train passing through Wasilla in snow fall, but none in ground blizzard conditions. So I headed to the east side of Wasilla Lake alongside the highway where I knew the drift from the lake across the high would be heavy. It was. I parked where I could stay in the car with the heater on in the hope I would spot the headlamps of the lead locomotive through the drift in time to jump out, run to the other side of these trees and catch the train as it came by. But it never did. These two intrepid walkers did. I wondered what their story was? Where had they come from? Where were they going? Were they homeless? Where would they sleep tonight? Did a warm house await them somewhere on the other side of the lake? I had sent a text message to a friend who would likely know the status of the train but got no answer. I gave up and went home to Margie and Junipurr in a dark house lit only by candles. I thought about trying again with the northbound freight but figured if the weather had blocked the Aurora it would likely block the freight as well. #notrain #windstorm #walkers #windwalkers #pedestrains

Learners from the A.I Steenkamp Primary School made their way to the event as pedestrians, with their visible reflective stashes on to send the #ISeeYou message across to drivers.
