Continuing on with iris week and today I have a sample of what might be one of the most beautiful iris fragrances I’ve ever tried - Iris Torréfié from Guerlain. The opening has a bit of spiciness to it from cardamom and there is a touch of a comforting coffee note as well. The iris is floral, powdery, and soft, so perfectly blended with the other notes. And finally in the dry down are notes of tea, leather, vanilla, and amber. I don’t normally love leather in fragrances but I enjoy it with iris. It gives an otherwise classic fragrance profile a bit of an edge. A full bottle is on my wishlist but until that happens I’ll just enjoy the bit I have left in my sample bottle. I'm down to the last two samples in my @experimentalperfumeclub discovery set, and the penultimate scent is Amber Iris. As with most of the other scents in the line, the scent profile very much matches the name. The scent features a very resinous amber, with notes of labdanum, myrrh, kyara incense, vanilla, iris, ambroxan, ambrette and patchouli. I do sometimes enjoy amber scents, and I almost always enjoy iris perfumes, so this had potential for me. I do appreciate more of a pure amber without the incense and patchouli, but overall I do like this fragrance. The powdery, earthy iris does soften the fragrance and make it something very wearable and pleasant on my skin.
